The demand for IT professionals is currently outtsripping supply, leaving busiinesses to examine ways of protecting their systems and assets.
That is the finding of a new report by Burning Glass Technologies, which found that the need for security professionals is expanding four times faster than the demand for people in other IT roles.
Over the past five years, the number of job advertisements for positions in IT security has risen by 73 per cent, while posts for general IT positions increased by 20 per cent over the same period.
Currently, companies are keener to take on professionals in IT security than any other role, with these workers pipping those located in other hotbeds such as application development and data analytics, a recent InformationWeek study found.
The shortage of IT security staff coincides with a rise in everyday threats to business network security; the latest research conducted by YouGov found that many firms are allowing employees to use personal laptops, tablets and smartphones at work, without taking the necessary IT security precautions.
