Having spent a considerable time researching between either Android or Lumia phones and their ways of keeping me up to date with things that matter to me, the Lumia came out head and shoulders above Android the next question was which one. I finally decided on the 1020. It gives a great balance across all my needs , allowing me to keep up with all my emails wherever I am , it's extra features like "Here Drive " is far superior to any of the competition's and the predicted text is intuitive learning all the time. There are so many more plusses that make this phone a market leader right down to how it sync's to my laptop automatically . My next phone will also be a Windows phone but will be one with a larger screen as I have developed MND so will need something easier to see and use. What ever you need it for weather personal or business a Windows Phone will serve your purpose .

With Windows 10 right around the corner, never has it been a better time to get on the Windows platform. Day to Day usage, this phone has excelled in all areas from photography to social networking. This does not come without its caveats though, there is a distinct “app gap” when comparing the overall OS to that of other. However, this “app gap” is very slim, and I can easily transition between the platforms with all my needs fulfilled (I just need snapchat to make it perfect). Why Windows though? I have been using Windows Phone for over two years now, from its infancy as Windows Phone 7 and keeping up with the iterative state of features being added and surpassing other platforms in their integration. Having all of my photos automatically uploaded to OneDrive makes backing up and sharing these memories so easy that I forget that it’s turned on, thoroughly taking this for granted. Not just with photos however, I keep all of my documents backed up to OneDrive. Ever needing to reference/update my Budget Sheet, keeping all these changes synchronised in day to day life without needing to be on my PC is definitely one of the key features that I personally love about Windows Phone. The Hardware, while showing its age still performs top notch for my need. Still quick to load apps, settings and get what I need to get done, it’d be hard to make this even faster at what it does and keeping up with said tasks. I can easily get up to two days usage (sometimes bordering three) from general use. This includes, an hour a day streaming music for my commute, taking pictures, messaging friends and colleagues, twitter and imgur when the boss isn’t looking; all over 4G with minimum WiFi Usage. To say the battery usage is great, is quite the understatement. This said though, your mileage may vary so take this review as a medium usage user. I still regularly charge the device every night, it’s become engrained into my daily schedule that it’s unavoidable. Now onto the main feature of the device. The Camera. It’s hard to deny that this is one of the best cameras on a phone in comparison to even the latest phones released. At almost two years old, and still up in the top reigns with the smartphones today this easily shows what kind of monster shooter you are dealing with. Crisp clean images in low light, stabilised image capture using a physical mechanism ensure that all the little bumps are ironed out and the images are clean. Being a hobbyist photographer, accessing the camera settings are a breath of fresh air. From ISO to shutter to exposure, it’s all there. With the recent addition of RAW files adds even more control over the images. Loading the 41-megapixels up into your favourite editor on your PC makes you truly appreciate how small the technology has become to produce such high quality images. Overall, the Lumia 1020 is highly recommend by myself in all aspects. Excellent battery, excellent Camera, Excellent Operating System. I can’t wait to see the successor this this phone, and the onset of Windows 10. Thanks for reading!

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has an amazing camera with amazing features, the only problems i had were the battery losing charge quickly and some apps that can be found on android/ apple devices are not available in windows store. thanks.

I've been using this phone for a little over a year and love it! The excellent camera and Cortana are great addition to a great phone, I've been out of contract for a while and there isn't anything out there that comes close to replacing it!

The camera bump admittedly makes this a quirky device, however this only adds to its charm. The bump does serve a purpose. What the 1020 loses in streamlined form factor it gains in having hands down the best camera on a smartphone today. If mobile photography is your penchant, then this is the device for you.

It's been almost a year since I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S3 for the Nokia Lumia 1020. Admittedly, the Lumia 1020 wasn't what you'd call my first rodeo. The Samsung Omnia 7 was my first ever Windows Phone device and the Lumia 800 became my first Lumia; the former being an elegant and sleek introduction to WP, the latter being what I consider one of Nokia's best ever creations: sturdy yet chic, subtle at first glance yet begs a second look, reliable, and efficient. Yet it's the Lumia 1020 which went about setting the bar even higher and influenced me to go even further where photography was concerned, even with the 1520 and 930 taking most of the plaudits from the tech reviewers that I frequent. Was it the stunning camera that lured me in? You could say it the slick and exciting features of Windows Phone 8 that pushed me from a "Maybe..." to an "Absolutely!" but really, it was both. From the Carl Zeiss optics to the Pureview processing to the Nokia Pro Camera app that harnessed every ounce of the 1020's potential, shooting with this device is an absolute joy and remains to this day my trusted sidekick to my Canon DSLR, often producing shots that would rival said DSLR. As a phone, it performed sensationally well thanks to the plethora of developers - both independent and well-established - keeping my appetite for exciting apps properly satiated; not to mention the great call quality because... well... it is a phone, after all. The ClearBlack display had every pixel in every image looking its very best and considering I live in the UK, I certainly appreciated the fact that I didn't have to remove my gloves just to send a quick message or email. I had the pleasure of beta testing Cortana before eventually flashing the device with the Denim update. Cortana made it easy for me to save reminders and keep me organised from day to day. While there are many impressive devices out there to choose from, I've always said that Lumias deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the best. I've owned many different devices from many a-manufacturer and through it all, the Lumia 1020 continues that trend of unique and quality smartphones that the range has produced since they were introduced. I can say with complete confidence that the 1020 is one of the most remarkable devices I've ever used and/or owned and this is all down to the fact that Nokia (and Microsoft, by proxy) dared to take risks that no one else was prepared to take.

I love my Lumia 1020, in yellow too so it stands out in the crowd. Hands down the best smartphone camera on the market, I've taken some amazing photos (and videos) with mine. The massive sensor and megapixel count really produce some amazing results with lossless cropping to zoom in on photos.

Love my 1020. The camera is superb - pictures are great. It can be quite slow (10 seconds?!) to start the camera though - so better for masterpieces - not perfect for quick snaps. I've had some issues with updates - this flagship seems to get updates slower than lesser phones :(

I switched to a Windows Phone in 2013 after the iPhone I was using started creaking under the weight of ever more processor hungry iOS updates. I chose the Lumia 1020 at the time because it was the only one which came with a decent amount of internal storage (64GB on my model) and most phones at that time didn't have SD memory options available. Unlike most people, I didn't buy the phone because it had a great camera and I'm not really interested in photography in general, but after a couple of weeks I found I was able to take amazing photos with this phone. I especially love being able to take pictures and them zoom in afterwards to reframe the subject for the perfect shot. After 18 months of usage, I'm still very happy with this phone. Even after updating it to the latest version of the Windows Phone OS, the phone is still very responsive. Unlike my old iPhone where after a few iOS updates the apps started taking longer and longer to launch. Virtually all of the mainstream apps available on iOS or Android are now available on Windows Phone and there are some great third party apps available too. The real problem I'm finding is not so much the mainstream apps as the niche apps. A typical scenario is when travelling I might look to download an app for my destination city's metro system. iOS app? Check. Android app? Check. Windows Phone app? Nope. It's these important, useful "non mainstream" apps that are the real pain. It's infintely frustrating to go to a website, get a pop up suggesting you download that website's app only to find there's no Windows Phone option. But don't let that put you off. My Lumia 1020 does 100% of the stuff I need it for day to day. And the more of us who buy Windows Phones, the more we increase the chances of getting more and more apps developed.

Since Lumia was introduced I'd always be a fan. I like the slick design. And it's the phone that can stand against apple. The polycarbonate body is just unbelievable. Also got one of the best camera. I know most of you wouldn't appreciate the camera because the phone display 720 res. If you project ur screen in a UHD tv then you'll defo appreciate the 41mp you get with ur Lumia.

I have been using the windows OS next to the fruit based one for a couple of years now, and find I reach for the Lumia on more occasions. It is easy to use and the camera quality beats most Digital cameras. If I have one issue it is that the app catalogue is still a little short of it competitors and they seem to be a little stripped back. The battery life is the same as all the rest lasting on average 24 hours, depending on usage.

This phone is well... Amazing! I get the basic apps and more, amazing camera, perfect screen size and so durable! Lost track of the times I've dropped this on my concrete tiles in my kitchen, now I'm not saying its drop proof but I have lost track of how many times I've dropped this and it hasn't got a single scratch and the actual operating system has never slowed or crashed once! Recommend to..well... Anyone!

I have had the 1020 for just over a year. It is such a great phone always runs smoothly and hardly ever had to do a reset for crashes or freezes. The camera is easily the best phone camera by far the pictures you get are crystal clear, I don't think I have ever used the zoom as all you need to do is take the pic then crop it all on the phone and every time its a great shot!! As for build quality well its what you expect from Nokia always very sturdy I have dropped it a couple of times and there isn't even a scratch. Overall I love this phone and will stick with Nokia as long as they keep making great phones like this one.

  • Awesome Phone

    Overall Rating

I was a bit concerned at first about the size of the phone itself. I am not normally a fan of a larger screen format, as I do not have the largest of hands. This said it never became an issue and I was able to navigate around the screens and type on it one handed. It even passed the ‘bra storage test’ with flying colours; it fitted down side of bra tidy, was comfy and didn’t dig in. In fact, the way that the camera lens is not flush with the back of the phone helps all of these. The camera, which to me is the main selling point of the phone, produced some very good photos considering that I am a point and shoot photographer. However, I felt that long distance shots were not as good as they could have been and the zoom when using the camera could have been better. The main reason for this may be the size of the lens itself, after all it may have a 41MP sensor but if the hole that it sees through isn’t that big then you can’t expect miracles. The camera can be a little slow to start up compared to my Hubb's 930 and this can be frustrating at times. It's a shame that it looks like it is not going to get the latest as it is no longer the shiniest phone that Lumia/Nokia produce and it is not made any more. There are enough apps available for it to do what I want although as a WP user I do feel that we are passed over by a lot of the major companies for their apps, this makes me feel unloved :-( Overall I love my phone and can't promote it enough.

I strongly believe this phone has one of the best camera's out in the market, even after being available for a while. Picture quality is amazing, I have ditched my bulky Digitial SLR as the quality of the pictures are very close and it's much easier to carry. Phone is very reliable, been rock solid since upgrading to windows phone 8 Cyan.

15 months in and I've still to find a phone that can replace my 1020. I've taken amazing pictures with it, tracked my workouts and walks all over the place, it seamlessly integrates with my work's Exchange setup yet maintains separation between private and corporate information, the screen is stellar. Sure, it's looking a bit weathered now, and sure, the camera isn't the quickest to start up - but as a package, I've not found anything to touch it. But not to worry. Microsoft have until August to release a new hero phone to replace it. That's when my contract renewal is up :) XBox Music, outlook.com, Office 365 - all these things work flawlessly and reliably, letting me depend on my phone and not worry about things like "is this picture going to save" or "did that email send?". Regrets? Should have had a white or yellow one. My yellow 920 that it replaced looked awesome. Black is so boring.
