After owning four high end Android devices I fancied going for a very big screen and high quality camera. The Lumia 1520 is a beautiful device and the one thing that had stopped me getting it previously was that every review said it was too big. My definition of "too big" is that it doesn't fit in your shirt pocket. I could not get a straight answer on this. One seller told me "I wear t-shirts so I don't know if it fits" How lame! Now I have the phone it fits fine and I did a Youtube video to demonstrate this point as nobody had before! So, great hardware, screen, camera, battery life and with Denim it is even better. My worry is that any future flagship windowsphone may not have a six inch screen.

Well honestly I think this phone is a beast still waiting for the chance to unleash its full power, I think the OS is still pushing very softly on the hardware inside this phone, and that's why I like this phone a lot, so much future-proofing! ~ the camera and the screen are of course the best things on this device, they are a perfect match! I love editing my photos on the big six inch screen!

Good: Bright and clear display, great for outdoors. Fast Processor. Optimized OS. Surround sound. Great battery life (it can serve me for 2 days if I don't play any games#. UI is simple. Great camera for lowlight #even without flash, photos are decent, especially for a phone#. Live Tiles. Live photos. Live folders. Shutter button. Design of earphones is perfect. Phone is very thin. Bad: Camera captures photos at 16mp #16:9# or 19mp #4:3# not at 20mp. Videos are recorded at only 30fps. No pause button while recording videos. No brightness control, etc... for video recording or front camera. Lumia apps for photography are separated instead of one app for everything. Updates are not released at the same day, even for unlocked phones, #seriously 4 months and the update is still not out yet, and a broken deadline too#. Some animations of the OS takes a lot of time #especially when opening an app#. Scrolling is slow. Internet Explorer is rubbish. Very hard to find Lumia phones and accessories, #accessories are too expensive#. The phone takes time to connect to the network #SIM) again after it is left out of the network area. No Cyan colour. Sometimes earphones stop working. Confusion with branding, I wish that the NOKIA boot up logo is replaced by Microsoft. Comments: I wish that the display was made of plastic instead of a glass that is fragile. Also I wish that future models do not have higher resolution as it will be useless while decreasing performance and battery life. Overall, this is a great phone, especially as your first smartphone.

I bought this phone six months ago purely for the promise of Cortana. We are still waiting, with the update seemingly still months away - if we get it at all. I will be ditching this phone soon and returning to Apple. At least they release their updates at the same time. Microsoft don't appear to be a patch on Apple.

A very good phone, my only criticism is that it could be better optimised to take advantage of the huge screen like the Samsung Galaxy note that has a stylus. Looking forward to the Cortland update which should bring windows phone up to Apple and Android standard.

I loved this phone from the moment I got it in my hands. It's the third Lumia I've tried at length and it felt great from the moment I charged it and got it working. It was effortless to configure it to my Microsoft account ( a bit of a fiddle to get a couple of email accounts working but that may have been user error - fixed it the second time around) and it ran effortlessly out of the box. Even the size was not an issue - although it did attract some remarks about it. But when I showed HD movies on it it wowed my friends - and I used it a lot for watching some on my media server - this phone was idea. Camera is outstanding - I'm no expert at photography but I've captured some great images with it. Made some fun videos too, and the speakers are perfect. I would not hesitate to buy this phone!

Let me add a couple of things that aren't mentioned in the other glowing reviews. I have been using the phone for a little over a year now, and it has taken a beating. I use it to navigate in both my truck and on my motorcycle(when needed). I have downloaded the entire United States to the phone (about 4gb of data), so I can navigate without having a cell connection. Very useful in some of the places I go. I do all the usual stuff people do on a smart phone, make reservations, pay bills etc. I chose the large screen version because I can now read email, surf without having to run for my reading glasses. I have really found no shortcomings in the phone from the way I use it. I marked it down in features because of the weak Windows app store. However, Windows 8.1 outperforms both the iPhone and Androids that I have used and the iPhone 5 my wife still uses. When you close an app, it stays closed, saving battery life on a battery that already has a monster life. My wife still uses an iPhone 5, but I catch her using mine quite a bit, so I think she may want to change when the contract is up.

I've been using the 1520 for just under a year now and still haven't seen anything on the market that comes close to its performance. This is undoubtedly one of the very best phone tablets available. If your ready to dive into the world of windows phone you would do well to check out the Lumia 1520.

Beautiful phone. It integrates really well with the other devices, data and software I need for both work and home. It would make a great toy but it's usefulness is absolutely serious. Been using a heavy SLR camera for 40 years, but the 20MP on this is quite wonderful.

So the awesome people over at Connects sorted me out with a two week trial and review time of the Nokia Lumia 1520. And as a Mac and iPhone user this was going to be interesting. I put it through it’s paces with apps, browsing, social networking, vlogging and a smattering of photography with that huge 20 megapixel rear camera. So with all this in mind I immediately set up the basics and logged into many of my online accounts and got to grips with the camera. I have to start by saying this thing is huge, I mean really huge. It just fits in my work trouser pockets and surprisingly easily into my jeans pocket and leaves me able to sit in a regular chair. Thats where the size part reaches its limit. Once seated I have no choice but to stand to get it out of my pocket. In the hand I very quickly got used to it and for many applications i.e. browsing, gaming, messaging, tweeting and emailing I actually preferred it to my iPhone 5. Indeed when going back to the iPhone I found myself wondering where my phone had gone. Now I’m not saying I’m converted but this super sized device is actually a pleasure to use and I wish I didn’t have to return it, I would (funds allowing) definitely have one as a second device for work, where I use windows as my daily OS. I’m too financially invested in OSX and iOS to make a complete change, plus the Apple eco system “just works” and does it well. My only real problem with it as a YouTuber was getting footage off it. Maybe there is some software out there that could help but when I plugged it into my Mac iPhoto launched as expected and created a folder automatically called Lumia 1520, but then it did nothing. So the easiest work around I found was “One Drive”, this worked pretty much like iCloud all be it a little slower but it worked. After a lengthy two week trial of this device I have found it to be perfectly adept at all the jobs you would expect from it, apps can be buggy and lacking in numbers, however as a UK work device for email and connection to a Windows based environment (which is why I say UK) ,still the main business work software here in the UK, it is perfect for sending detailed photos back to base when on working days out, which is where it would be a good performer for my working situation.

I have had the Nokia 920, which was a brilliant phone (Which has bounced off my drive a few times without issue). I upgraded to the Nokia 1520 as the only 'real' upgrade as the 1320 is a lower spec than the 920 and the 930 was not released. It lasted 8 weeks and on its first trip to the floor from the height of a folding camping chair completely cracked the glass and as others, the buttons start to have a mind of its own. I have owned mobile phones for 21 years upgrading every time I can and this is the first phone I have ever broke. Poor!

After being an iPhone user for the past 5 years I struggled to come to terms with needing to part with apple.. The battery life on my iPhone 5 became very short lived. I have been told by my best friend who has a yellow Nokia lumia 1520, to go for the same phone he has. I have had my white Nokia Lumia 1520 for a week now and am still in awe of the battery life, the camera and the apps.. the one downfall is I live in Australia, and Australia doesn't have much covers at all or even a rino screen protector... and also Harvey Norman didn't even know anything about this phone that they were selling.. all in all after the annoyance with Harvey Norman i still say that this phone is defiantly awesome I'm in love with everything it has to offer! Even with the phone its self being so big its amazing!! don't let the size let you down!

I'd like to start by mentioning that I recently left the Android train for the Windows Phone operating system. I used to love Android, but I wanted a larger screen that was easier to use. The larger screen phones on Android didn't appeal to me because they simply tried to pack more stuff on the screen. Icons, text, and buttons all remained small in order to increase available screen real estate for media consumption. Windows Phone on the Lumia 1520 seemed to defy this. When trying it out at the store, I noticed that buttons and text were large, making navigation of the screen a dream come true! I bought the phone and could not have been happier! But that has all changed with Windows Phone 8.1 update that I received today. Now, the keyboard is cramped way at the bottom of the screen, making me hold the phone way lower than during WP8. Now, the weight of the phone is way more noticeable as it is made top heavy (which, anyone else out there who suffers with arthritis will share my pain here# and more difficult to hold. Also, despite changing accessibility features, other buttons and text across the OS remain too small. In fact, it took a couple tries to get an app to install this morning as the Install button is so small now that I kept hitting it and the app screenshot at the same time. For those who love all of the 1520 specific changes to the OS #I have actually seen that some folks enjoy the smaller keyboard), I'm happy for you, but I need things to go back to being larger again. I want my Lumia 1520 experience to be merely an enlarged version of what everyone else is getting on the smaller screened phones. I'm not asking that these new changes be removed. What I would like to see in the very near future is the OPTION to rescale things back to the way they were when I bought the phone. If this is not in Microsoft's plans, I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know so that I can begin to search again for a smart phone that addresses my needs, as this phone once did. Also, if there is a way to revert back to WP8 until such an option is made, I'd appreciate that as well. I love action center, but I'd gladly do without it to be able to use my phone with ease again.
