  • Let down by problematic touch screen

    Overall Rating
    ★★★★★ ★★★★★

The phone itself is really nice but the major let down is the touchscreen. The display is lovely, but its unreliable due to an annoying tap bug whereby it sometimes interprets a tap as a swipe & vice-versa. I've had this problem with two screens now. They could also do more to make use of the big screen such as dual window or pop-up window multi tasking or stylus pen support.

  • Great phone, build quality is smart

    Overall Rating
    ★★★★★ ★★★★★

I really rate this phone, I've been an Android user for years but when I first used Windows 8.1, I was hooked, the Windows phone 8.1 environment is miles more fluid, and easy to use, and Cortana is a brilliant personal helper, you don't have to speak to her in a over exaggerated way, just talk in a normal way. I know the App Store will soon get more and more apps, although there are loads there that will cover all the bases. The build of the Lumia 1520 is second to none, the camera lens and software are second to none, and the screen quality is top notch, sharp a detailed. I think the battery saver is another very clever bit of the WP 8.1 , and I can't wait to see what in store with Windows phone 10

  • The phone with EVERYTHING

    Overall Rating
    ★★★★★ ★★★★★

The phone literally does have everything - 4G, v4 bluetooth, 20MP camera, great screen (full HD), expandable memory, NFC, the lot. Best of all, it just WORKS. Not had one problem since I've been using it. The screen is a nice size to watch TV during downtime, I can stream music from my onedrive or the built in MixRadio (both for free), and it's easy to get a great photo with the camera. I thought the live photos within the lumia camera app would be a bit of a gimmick (they move a frame or two from before the photo was 'taken'), but it's actually quite a nice touch when you look back. There's a SatNav (with voice & turn-by-turn) built in and this is about the only thing I'll find drains the battery. Still enough juice to use on the way to work, use phone all day & drive back (1hr each way), so can't really complain there. Otherwise the phone can do 2 days general use before needing the wall. If you like a lot of apps then the Microsoft store is a little behind there atm, but you're able to get all the main social/ shopping/travel/media/productivity apps now & there's enough for what I need. This phone is an AMAZING flagship device which in my opinion has yet to be replaced, so my advice would be "if you can find one, buy it!".

The Lumia 1520 is my third Windows phone (HTC HD2/WinCE -> Samsung Omnia 7 / WP7 -> Lumia 1520/WP8.1) and by far the largest! Any concerns about its size soon evaporated; it's a two handed device for the most part and that's fine for me, but it is so thin and light that making phone calls does not feel in the least bit awkward or uncomfortable. The large, clear, bright HD screen makes it a useful travel TV and a useful eBook reader. The camera is excellent; the best camera I’ve ever owned! Whatever antennae lurk inside are top notch; phone call capability is faultless, Wi-Fi reception and transmission is excellent and Bluetooth is stable and reaches a good distance too. You can get away with charging the phone every two or three days with modest usage, but I charge mine each night using a wireless charging plate anyway. No fiddle with cables, I just put it down on the bedside table and it recharges overnight whilst I do too. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending the Lumia 1520 to someone after a phone with a large screen. The great thing about Windows Phone is that if size matters and you want something less imposing, then you have the rest of the Lumia range to choose from with exactly the same software features (hardware allowing). You are not penalised for prudent shopping.

Nokia Lumia 1520 is a dream come true experience, under its hood its a powerhouse. First time in so many years I can use a phone for about 2days without charging even with heavy gaming, internet, and photography. Lumia camera being the other best of this phone. Amateur photography has reached a new dimension with this device.

I have been a Lumia fan since it launched - graduating from the 800, 900, 920, testing the 930 and now a beautiful green 1520 imported from Germany. The battery life is astounding, it's fast, the screen is superb, the integration of Office and compatibility with Exchange excellent. Viewing attachments a breeze. Why have anything else?!

I also catch up on a lot of TV and films on it due to its size its the perfect do everything phone for anyone creative. I never stop recommending it!

  • Great package, maybe a bit too big

    Overall Rating
    ★★★★★ ★★★★★

Hello, Here I am, writing a review of the Nokia Lumia 1520 I had for the last 4 months. My first impressions of the phone were that is very big, like really big. To my surprise, when I took it in my hand it was still very big but surprisingly easy to handle. I found the plastic that wraps the back and the edges of the very slick and easy to grip on (if you don't have wet hands) and the balance of the device was simply stunning as well as the build quality. You can knock your fingers on the back of the phone and you won't find a single spot in which it sounds empty. It gives you the impression of solid and you may be tempted to use it instead of a hammer from time to time but don't. The software is as always lag-free (hrrhhhm Android) and the hardware specs are top notch, 2gb of ram is overkill for the not so hungry windows platform and you will find that no matter how many apps or games you have on the device won't break a sweat. What I was mesmerized was the camera, I've had other phones with great cameras before such as Z2 and Nexus 5 but nothing compares to this. The photos in the dark are stunning, the flash does a great job and the focus is really great. You don't have to be an expert as the Lumia Camera is very friendly and the Rich Capture option basically sets everything for you so you won't have to bother with any settings whatsoever. I was expecting that for a 6" device the battery would drain out the same day but as it seems this is not the case here. I can get 2 days of battery with data, wifi, automatic brightness and using the phone more than a normal user throughout the day. The second day is a little challenge as it gets past lunchtime and you only have ~20% left but don't worry, the battery saver or savior is there to rescue you. Cortana is the best personal assistant there and will do anything to make you happy. The only thing bothering me is that I can't easily reach the start button while holding the device with one hand therefore is my 4/5 Easy of Use rating. (I am 6.1" and I have bigger than average hands). To sum this up, this is a great phone and I am really proud to have it, it really stands out due to it's size and it's premium quality. I totally recommend this FLAGSHIP!

This is undoubtedly the best phone I have ever owned. Yes it is probably too big, yes it is probably to heavy, and yes the windows software still needs some more work... but the instant you stop worrying about these things and accept this sleek, powerful, and friendly leviathan into your life, none of it matters. (rave over - now onto some cold hard opinions). PROS: The build quality is excellent. The display is beautiful - it's not even particularly technical/high spec but it just looks smashing all the time. The camera is phenomenal. The battery genuinely lasts for 2 days of full usage. The speakers are fantastic. Same goes for the phone and signal quality. It's runs everything very quickly. Windows phone 8 is very fluid, fast, and enjoyable / easy to use. Sunlight readability / contrast is excellent. You can use it with even the thickest of mittens (great for skiing)! The Nokia and Microsoft software is all very good. There is a wealth of other good apps available. Pro/Con: The size - it's probably too big.. it's difficult to use with one hand and it doesn't really fit in a trouser pocket. But you can do anything with it, anywhere, and it goes into a jacket inner pocket no trouble. Wireless charging is fun but in the end, an expensive gimmick (so far..). The Cons: There are still key apps missing Microsoft!! Sort it out! Snapchat, stumble upon, tinder, you name it, they aren't there. God knows why. It's too heavy. The supplied headphone are rubbish. The camera bump is kinda irritating.. There aren't as many good covers as more popular models. Finally.. THE MUSIC PROBLEM - trying to sync my iTunes music library from my mac has been the bane of my life since I bought a windows phone - the mac app is RUBBISH and has NEVER been updated. In short, it simply doesn't work. FIX IT. SO! Summary: Fantastic phone. If you want a powerful, easy to use, feature rich and beautifully built phone with a huge display and an outstanding camera, then you will LURVE it. ..and that's all I have to say about that.

The Nokia 1520 is still one of the best phones out there, amazing camera, a good app ecosystem to compete at the very top, powerful specs and great battery. For a phone released at the end of 2013, it still carries the tech that is better than many new of 2015!

You can feel the quality of this phone before power up. The screen is amazing, I have Office 365 so everything personalised for me and worked within moments. Internet pages and apps working without squinting with fantastic speed. I can no longer imagine a phone without the brilliance and quality of screen given by the 1520, I have had the phone around a year now and it is going to a hard act to follow. I have had mobile phones since the mid 80's, they have changed beyond recognition. Without a doubt the best phone I have owned

    Overall Rating

When my Lumia 1520 first arrived, I was shocked at its size. But within a few days, it became like any other phone & you just forget it's huge. Screen Really is fantastic! Fonts, pictures, videos & websites are bigger & easier to read. It's bright in sunny conditions, dull in dark conditions & you have full control over this. Glance screen is a feature you take for granted but its look & go ability make it the most used feature. Camera 20MP with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) snaps breathtaking pictures. Friend always ask me to post my pictures so they can have them in their albums. The recent update makes the camera faster & rich capture really shows you to bring the subtle details out of instead using different excuses & the flash. All photos/videos are uploaded to OneDrive so you always have then backed-up. More on that later! Cortana I use her #the virtual digital assistant) all the time for setting reminders & alarms, getting directions & calling people. A great extra, especially with the voice activated "Hey Cortana" now available on the 1520. Email All syncs via Outlook but all email providers catered for, even my Army email which is a nightmare to use on the web-based version. Contacts Again all synched across all platforms. If you install/allow, your contacts are updated with information from other sources such as other email accounts, Twitter, Facebook etc. Sat Nav/Maps The HERE suite provide great apps to get you from A-to-B again across platform. Totally free & work really well. I don't own a sat nav as these do the job perfectly. Battery Despite the large screen, the Lumia 1520 easily gets through the day & in reality, 2 days. With some settings disabled you are looking at 3-4 days. Amazing stuff for a modern smart phone, especially with all its functions & screen size. Internet Syncs favourites & open tabs with Windows 8.1, a feature that only matters when you really need it! Has the ability to download files from the internet & save them locally. Remembers passwords from Windows 8.1 so you don't have to remember them! OneDrive/cloud storage This is the game changer for me, especially if you have a Windows 8.1 computer or tablet. The ability to access documents & files from anywhere is amazing! This allows me work/view anything from my phone & vice-versa. Total productivity! Overall, I highly recommend this device. Yes, it's big but honestly I don't notice it. Others do, but then they look at the internet or pictures & comment on the great looking screen. People talk about a lack of apps but pretty much everything you need is in the store. Windows Phone is easy to use & intuitive. Even my Mum in her 60s is rocking a Windows Phone & regardless of the device you choose, the experience is the same across all phones. Highly recommended!
