What does it take to be a part of the Developer Support Team

Qualifications, abilities, and experience should include:

  • At least a 4 years degree (Engineer or an MCA) with Computer Science as one of the papers
  • Experience of at least 1.5 to 2.5 years in the technical environment mentioned below is must
  • Good thought process to come up with multiple approaches to the problem and using them quickly
  • Ability to learn from an issue/situation and adapt and carry forward the solution to another seemingly unrelated issue
  • Good English Communication Skills - Spoken and Written (including technical writing)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and effective learning skills
  • This position has frequent contact with developer customers and Microsoft employees; including managers, support professionals, customer account managers, and product development teams
  • This position may require travel to a customer's site on short notice and also requires 24x7 on-call availability for critical customer problems

Critical exposure areas

  • C/C++, Win32 Programming and Windows OS knowledge
  • MFC, COM & ATL, debugging
  • Exposure to managed code (.Net and C#/VB.NET), XML, COM/DCOM/COM+, MSMQ, data access technologies, transaction processing
  • UNIX certification/Administration - Experience in NFS, NIS, AD, UNIX, Windows, TCP/IP, Ethernet
  • Solid understanding of the Windows OS fundamentals, Threads & processes and DLLs & Libraries
  • Basic idea of developer tools such as compilers, linkers, debuggers
  • Visual Studio IDE and its uses, such as a debugger
  • Problem solving skills in SQL Server, troubleshooting SQL Server performance issues, query tuning and T-SQL programming
  • Experience in sync framework, reporting services, .Net programming
  • Silverlight, FastCGI (PHP, Python, Ruby), Java/JavaScript, AJAX
  • Experience in Networking, Certificates, Authentication, MVC, WCF Data Services/LINQ, REST
