Enterprise Agreement

The Microsoft Enterprise Agreement allows organizations with more than 250 PCs, devices and/or users to license Microsoft software and cloud services over a three-year period at the best available pricing. Get all the advantages of Software Assurance and simplified licensing management, as well as a seamless way to license both on-premises software and cloud services through a single organization-wide agreement. Two major enrollments are available under an Enterprise Agreement: the Enterprise Enrollment for your end user services and device needs, which covers popular products and services such as Office, Windows, and CAL Suites; and the Server and Cloud Enrollment for licensing your datacenter and infrastructure products and services, both on-premises and cloud hosted.

Enterprise Enrollment

The Enterprise Enrollment enhances manageability and cost savings when you are equipping your entire organization with the latest versions of the Windows operating system, premium Office suite, or Client Access License (CAL) Suites to connect users and devices to Microsoft server products.

Moreover, the Enterprise Enrollment lets you choose whether to run PC and device software or cloud services, or both, across your organization, with the ability to license both on-premises software and online services. You also have the flexibility to maintain a mix of on-premises and online services to suit user needs, and you can transition from on-premises licensing to equivalent Online Services as business priorities change. Such organization-wide implementations help you reduce device and user management and support costs, and they provide additional pricing advantages above the Enterprise Agreement’s standard volume pricing levels.

The Enterprise Enrollment is appropriate for your organization if you have more than 250 PCs, devices, or users and want to license software and cloud services for your organization for a minimum three-year period.

During this term, you can get attractive volume pricing for Microsoft core PC and device products and applicable client access licenses in exchange for your enterprise-wide licensing commitment.

You also get the added flexibility to transition from these on-premises licenses to comparable cloud services such as Office 365 and Windows Intune. Should you add new users or devices during the term of your Enterprise Agreement, you can equip them with software and cloud services you are already using and then account for these changes once a year through an annual reconciliation process known as True-up.

Finally, you can spread the cost of your Enterprise Enrollment across three annual payments, which can help you predict future budget requirements.

Server and Cloud Enrollment

The Server and Cloud Enrollment is an enrollment under the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement that enables highly committed customers to standardize broadly on one or more key server and cloud technologies from Microsoft. In exchange for making an installed-based–wide commitment to one or more components of Server and Cloud Enrollment, you receive the best pricing and terms, plus other benefits including cloud-optimized licensing options and simplified license management.

Cloud Enabled

Server and Cloud Enrollment offers our lowest Windows Azure pricing, application License Mobility to the cloud, and new benefits for using System Center to manage Windows Azure resources. Server and Cloud Enrollment also includes a new subscription-based option that offers more flexibility when you are retiring workloads, consolidating, or migrating to the cloud.

Standardized and Simplified

Server and Cloud Enrollment replaces the Enrollment for Application Platform (EAP) and Enrollment for Core Infrastructure (ECI) with a single enrollment that span Microsoft’s server and cloud technologies. This enables you to take advantage of simplified licensing through a standardized set of products and services and gain access to the latest technologies and benefits for all deployments. In addition, when you commit to the Core Infrastructure Suite (CIS; a combination of Windows Server and System Center) in Server and Cloud Enrollment you have access to a standardized management platform across on-premises and Windows Azure.

Cost Savings and Benefits

Server and Cloud Enrollment offers Microsoft’s best pricing and benefits for server and cloud products, including discounts on new licenses, Software Assurance. and Windows Azure. Customers with high purchasing volume may also qualify for premium benefits, including Unlimited Problem Resolution Support.

How It Works

To enroll, an installed-base–wide commitment is required to one or more of the following four Server and Cloud Enrollment components.

This means committing to full Software Assurance coverage across the installed base of a Server and Cloud Enrollment component. For the Core Infrastructure component, however, a commitment is required to full System Center coverage on the Windows Server installed base through the Core Infrastructure Suites (CIS). Windows Azure is automatically available when you are enrolling in any of the other three components and it can also be licensed standalone.

Enterprise Agreement Enrollments Are Being Replaced by Server and Cloud Enrollment

The Enrollment for Application Platform (EAP) and Enrollment for Core Infrastructure (ECI) are being replaced by Server and Cloud Enrollment on November 1, 2013. Customers with any of these enrollments should work with their Microsoft representative or partner to develop the best transition plan.

Enterprise Agreement Options

The Enterprise Agreement offers a number of options that allow you to meet your organization's unique needs:

Software Assurance

Software Assurance helps you get the most from your Microsoft purchases. Benefits such as 24x7 support, deployment planning services, end-user and technical training, and the latest software releases are combined in one cost-effective program. And if you are considering moving aspects of your IT to the cloud, Software Assurance delivers even more value by helping you plan your cloud migration and manage your on-premises and hybrid environments.

Spread Payments

With Spread Payments, you can take advantage of greater flexibility in managing technology expenditures with the option to make three annual payments instead of one up-front payment. This option helps reduce initial costs and helps you forecast annual software budget requirements up to three years in advance.


The subscription option lowers initial licensing costs because you subscribe to the rights to use Microsoft products and services instead of owning them. Subscription gives you the ability to increase or decrease subscription counts on an annual basis.


Over the life of your Enterprise Agreement, you can equip additional hardware, devices, or users with software and online services that you’ve already licensed, and then account for these changes through an annual reconciliation process known as True-Up. If you have an Enrollment with an Enterprise Subscription program, this process is known as an Annual Order, through which you can increase or decrease your license subscription counts.
