Can I use my Asha device as a modem from my Mac OS X system?

Yes, you can use your phone to share the internet connection with your Mac either over a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

To use the phone as a USB modem, follow the steps below:

  1. Connect your Asha phone to your Mac using a compatible USB cable. When prompted by the phone to select the USB mode, choose Modem
  2. On the Mac go to System Preferences > Network
  3. If your phone is not visible in the services list, click on the + button, select the phone from the Interfaces dropdown and click Create.
  4. Select the network service corresponding to you Asha phone and click Advanced where you should make the following changes under the Modem tab:
  5. Vendor: Nokia
  6. Model: GPRS (GSM/3G)
  7. APN: enter the name of the internet APN as required by your mobile operator. In many cases this is “internet” but it may vary from operator to operator.
  8. Click Ok and then Apply
  9. Click Connect to initiate the internet connection.

To use your device as a Bluetooth modem:

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on and your phone is discoverable
  2. On your Mac got to System Preferences > Bluetooth and click on + (or Set up New Device if you do not yet have any paired devices)
  3. Select your Asha device from the list and click Continue.
  4. Go through the wizard to complete the pairing. If you are prompted with the Bluetooth Mobile Phone Setup dialog, use the same values as at step 4 in USB instruction above.
  5. Go to System Preferences > Network and select the Bluetooth DUN service. If this is not already listed click on + and add it.
  6. Click Advanced and make sure you have the correct modem settings (see step 4 from USB setup instruction above)
  7. Click Connect to initiate the internet connection.
