Nokia 6110 Navigator supports assisted GPS (A-GPS). It can also function as a stand-alone GPS device when no assistance is available. A-GPS is an enhancement to stand-alone GPS, unique to connected GPS devices, which enables the GPS receiver to contact the satellites faster. (This is known as “time to first fix.”) A-GPS essentially provides the GPS receiver with information on where the satellites are in relation to the GPS receiver’s current location. With A-GPS, the time to first fix can be reduced to the equivalent of “hot start time.” The time needed for position acquisition with A-GPS is typically less than 30 seconds.
