Build a Project Data Service (PDS) extension using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. The download includes a C# base class that makes the building of custom PDS extensions easy, and guidance on best practices to follow when extending Project Server 2003.

The Project Data Service (PDS) is the API for Microsoft® Office Project Server 2003. PDS extensions provide the developer with a good mechanism to extend and enhance Project Server functionality. The download includes a base class for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET that makes it easy to write PDS extensions to access and update the existing Project Server database, access new databases, or communicate with other systems and applications using Web services. The documentation includes guidance on best practices to follow when extending Project Server.

        C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2003 SDKs\Microsoft Office Project 2003 SDK\PDS Reference
      Instructions for use:

The installation creates the directory PDSExtension_NET in the installation directory, which contains the Readme.txt, Install.BAT, and BuildPDSExtension_NET.doc files. Follow the directions in Readme.txt to modify the Install.BAT file before you use it to install the sample database scripts on the computer that hosts SQL Server for Project Server. You can also manually install the database scripts by entering the commands in a Command Prompt window.

The subdirectories PdsDirect, PdsExtension, and PdsRegister contain the .NET source files; the PdsExtension\bin\Debug\PdsExtension.dll assembly includes the base class for building PDS extensions. The Samples subdirectory includes example PDS request and reply examples, and Transact SQL scripts for creating stored procedures and views.

Installation also saves a backup file ManagedCodePDSExtension.exe in the installation subdirectory PDS Downloads. To re-install the files, double-click PDS Downloads\ManagedCodePDSExtension.exe.
