        Software installation errors and misconfigurations compromise performance and stability, resulting in escalated support costs. The System Center Service Manager 2010 Configuration Pack can help prevent errors, increasing your organizational uptime and helping you build a more secure and reliable Service Manager 2010 infrastructure. This Configuration Pack contains Configuration Items intended to manage your Service Manager 2010 environment. This configuration pack monitors the following site system roles: management server, data warehouse management server, portal web server, a monitor for End User Clients (the end users in the organization who will be accessing the Service Manager Portal) and some monitors for the SSRS server which will run Service Manager Reports. To manage your Service Manager roles with this Configuration Pack, import the “Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Server Roles” baseline, used for management of the management server, data warehouse management server, and portal web server; the “Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Reporting Server Baseline” which is used for managing the SSRS server; and the “Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Portal End User Baseline” which ensures that the end user client computers are ready to access the Self Service Portal. Assign the baselines against the proper collections. The “Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Server Roles” baseline evaluates compliance for the appropriate role, represented by a Configuration Items.

        System Center Service Manager 2010 server roles covered:
        • Management Server
        • Data Warehouse Management Server
        • Portal Web Server
        • End User Client Computers (which are planned to use the Self Service Portal)

      Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

        • Other Software: SC Configuration Manager 2007, or 2007 R2.
      • Install the Configuration Pack, and then import the resulting configuration items and configuration baseline into Configuration Manager 2007, and then assign the configuration baseline to desired collection.

        To download the Configuration Pack
        1. Click the Download button to download the SystemCenterServiceManager2010.MSI file
        2. Run the Windows Installer file and choose a path to install the Configuration Pack files. The default location will be "C:Program Files (x86)\System Center Configuration Packs\Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Configuration Pack"

        Importing a Configuration Pack
        You can import this Configuration Pack module using the Configuration Manager 2007 console and following these steps:
        1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager/Site Database/Computer Management/Desired Configuration Management.
        2. Right-click Configuration Items, Import Configuration Data to load the Import Configuration Data Wizard.
        3. Click Add, browse to SystemCenterServiceManager2010.cab, and then click Open.
        4. Follow the wizard instructions.

        Assigning a configuration baseline to a collection
        1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager/Site Database/Computer Management/Desired Configuration Management/Configuration Baselines.
        2. Right-click each of the three baselines, and then click Assign to a Collection to assign your baseline to a collection.
          • Server Roles: Any server with a Service Manager Management Server, Data Warehouse Management Server, or Service Manager Web Portal Server installed.
          • Reporting Server Baseline: Any SSRS server which will be used to report on data collected by the Service Manager Data Warehouse
          • Portal End User Baseline:Any end user client computer, or server, which is expected to access the Service Manager End User Portal.
