This series of Hands-On Labs is related to the "Windows Phone 7 Developer Guide" available from http://wp7guide.codeplex.com/. The individual labs correlate with the chapters of the guide, expand upon the techniques shown there, or integrate the fictitious Tailspin Surveys application described in the guide. Some of the labs extend the Tailspin Surveys application to add new features. Others demonstrate significant techniques not implemented in the Tailspin Surveys application.
    • Supported Operating System

Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista Service Pack 1

      • Windows Phone Developer Tools (available as a free download from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185584)
      • The code for many of the labs uses a series of assemblies located in a folder named Lib at the root of the samples code tree. This folder contains some third-party assemblies. You must read the license terms associated with these assemblies (in the file notice.txt in the root folder) before using the samples.
      • Many of the exercises in the labs require you to install the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit - September 2010 (available from http://silverlight.codeplex.com/releases/view/52297). This includes the slide switch and date picker controls used in the examples.
      • Exercise 4 in Lab 1 "Introduction to Windows Phone 7" that demonstrates unit testing requires you to install the Silverlight Unit Testing Framework for Windows Phone 7 and Silverlight 3 (available from http://www.jeff.wilcox.name/2010/05/sl3-utf-bits/).
      • Exercise 2 in Lab 6 "Interacting with Windows Marketplace" that uses the Ad Control requires you to install the Microsoft Mobile Advertising SDK for Windows Phone 7 version 1.0 (available from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=198440).
      • The guide for each lab includes information to help you install the required assemblies, which must be copied to the Lib folder before you run the examples. For reference, the assemblies listed below must be present in this folder before you run the lab code. The following assemblies are included in the Lib folder in the Hands on Labs code:
        • Funq.Silverlight.dll
        • Microsoft.Practices.Prism.dll
        • Microsoft.Practices.Prism.Interactivity.dll
You must download the following assemblies and copy them to the Lib folder (refer to the ReadMe.txt file in the root folder for details) to be able to run all of the examples:
        • Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI.dll
        • Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit.dll
        • Microsoft.Silverlight.Testing.dll
        • Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTesting.Silverlight.dll.
The last two assemblies in the list above are provided in a ZIP file that you download. Before you unzip the file, open the Properties window for the file in Windows Explorer and click the Unblock button.
