      The internal Microsoft Information Technology (IT) department moved to a storage utility solution to improve storage utilization and to lower the total cost of ownership. By establishing the Storage Utility Operations (SUOPS) team to manage the utility and its chargeback model, Microsoft is able to provide better cost visibility and accountability for the business units. The SUOPS team centralized storage management and reporting for efficiency, permitting headcount re-allocation and improving under-utilized asset tracking.
