As Turkey’s third-largest private bank, GarantiBank maintains a highly organized and efficient IT infrastructure. Much of this efficiency is due to keeping its PC environment up-to-date with the latest releases of the Microsoft® Windows® client operating system (OS) for its 12,500 desktop and notebook PCs and by refreshing its PC fleet every three to four years.

A total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis conducted at GarantiBank in spring 2006 found that upgrading the bank’s PCs to Microsoft Windows Vista™ from Windows XP would enable the bank to reduce overall TCO per PC. These projected cost savings include:
IT labor costs reduced by 10 percent or $18 per PC per year.
End-user labor costs reduced by 10 percent or $148 per PC per year.
Electricity consumption reduced by 26 percent or US $10 per PC per year.
Based solely on TCO benefits gained by upgrading to Windows Vista, GarantiBank anticipates a payback on its investment within 12 months with an internal rate of return of 121 percent.
