        SQL Server Express with Advanced Services has all of the features in SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, plus you can:

        • Easily manage and administer SQL Server Express with an easy-to-use graphical management tool -- SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express (SSMSE).


        • Issue full-text queries against plain character-based data in SQL Server tables. Full-text queries can include words and phrases, or multiple forms of a word or phrase.


        • Run SQL Server Reporting Services reports on local relational data.

        Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Tool Kit provides additional tools and resources for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services. The SQL Server Express Toolkit contains SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express. a graphical management tool and Business Intelligence Development Studio, a creation and editing environment for reports using SQL Server Reporting Services.

        The SQL Server Express Toolkit contains these two components:
        • SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express (SSMSE) – Easily manage SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services database instances with this free, easy-to-use graphical management tool.

        • Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) – Create and edit reports for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS). BIDS provides the ability to create and edit Reporting Services projects that are reporting on local relational data in local SQL Server Express databases.

    • Supported Operating System

      Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, Windows XP

        • Computer with Intel or compatible Pentium III 500 MHz or faster processor (1 GHz or faster is recommended.)
        • Minimum of 192 MB of RAM (512 MB or more is recommended.)
        • 600 MB of available hard disk space

      • Note: You must have administrative rights on the computer to install SQL Server Express.

          Step 1: Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later from the Microsoft Download Center.

          Step 2: Download SQL Server Express by clicking the SQLEXPR.EXE or SQLEXPR32.EXE link later on this page. To start the installation immediately, click Run. To install SQL Server Express at a later time, click Save.

            Note: SQLEXPR32.EXE is a smaller package that can be used to install SQL Server Express on 32-bit operating systems only. The larger SQLEXPR.EXE package supports installing onto both 32-bit and 64-bit (WOW install) operating systems. There is no other difference between these packages.

          Step 3: Follow the installation instructions provided in the Readme. For known issues, review the Release Notes.
