      Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2

        The standards specifications are available in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) which you can open using Adobe Reader, available at http://www.adobe.com.

        Note: For optimal readability of the PDF documents, it is recommended that they be opened and viewed by using Adobe Reader 8.0. Earlier versions of Adobe Reader might not provide the same reading quality.
      • Individual PDF files should be stored in a single directory to enable links between the files. Note that if you download additional PDF documents from Microsoft, they should also be stored in the same directory to enable linking.

        The self-extracting Zip file (MSOFFSTAND.zip) in this list of files contains all of the client protocol documents. Please download and read the readme file. This package does not collect any personal information.
      • Audience
        This documentation is intended for use in conjunction with publicly available standard specifications, computer language design, and implementation art. It assumes that the reader either is familiar with this material or has access to it.

        The technical documentation set provides the following levels of audience support:

        • Implementer: Information regarding the implementation by Microsoft of certain standards for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint to facilitate interoperability between those implementations and other relevant implementations of a given standard.

        • Reviewer: A resource for readers who want to evaluate or increase their understanding of how Microsoft is approaching its implementation of these standards in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft PowerPoint.
