SQL Server Health and History Tool (SQLH2)

The Microsoft SQL Server Health and History Tool (SQLH2) allows you to collect information from instances of SQL Server, store this information, and run reports against the data in order to determine how SQL Server is being used.

      This version of SQLH2 supports SQL Server 2005 RTM collection.

      SQLH2 collects four main types of information:
      1. Feature Usage – What services/features are installed, running and level of workload on the service.
      2. Configuration Settings – Machine, OS and SQL configuration settings, SQL instance and database metadata.
      3. Uptime of the SQL Server service
      4. Performance Counters (optional) – Used to determine performance trends

      To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.
    • There are four downloads located here:
      1. H2Setup.msi - Contains all files needed to set up the SQLH2 Collector. You do not need to install SQLH2Update fixes with this version. Includes "SQLH2 V2 Deployment Guide.doc", a document describing SQLH2 installation and usage.
      2. SQLH2Update.cab - Contains the updated SQLH2.exe file and instructions on how to apply this to existing SQLH2 installations. Fixes several bugs that were reported by customers in the Version 2.0 release.
      3. FAQ.cab - Frequently asked questions about SQLH2.
      4. Additional_doc.cab - Additional documentation including a comprehensive installation guide and SQLH2 schema.

      Note that SQLH2 requires you to create a SQL Server repository database. You should also download the SQLH2 reports to view the data SQLH2 collects. If you are interested in performance data, download and install the SQLH2 Performance Collector at the link provided on this page.
