The features and improvements supported in this release are:
        • Relationship Links: The WCF Data Services client and server libraries have been extended to represent the URIs that allow the client to address the relationships between related entities.
        • Bags: The WCF Data Services client and server libraries have been extended to represent small unordered groupings of non-nullable primitive or complex types. There are plans to update the name from Bags to Multi-Valued Property
        • EntitySet Resolver: Previous versions of the WCF Data Services client library assumed that all entity sets reside under the same service root. This release updates the client library to allow the client to resolve entity sets to different URIs.
        • Customizable feed update: The WCF Data Services client and server libraries have been extended to support Entity Property Mapping to Atom link and category elements. In addition, these mappings may be conditional.
        • Named streams: WCF Data Services has been extended to support having multiple named streams per entity as opposed to a Media Link Entry which can only represent one stream per entity.
        • Prefer header: The WCF Data Services client and server libraries have been extended to enable a client to state whether or not it would like the server to include a response payload for PUT, MERGE or POST operations. This is modeled after the HTTP Prefer RFC.
        • Support for new HTTP method (PATCH): In previous releases, MERGE was defined to allow for partial modifications to an entity. With this update, the WCF Data Services client and server libraries now support the verb PATCH in addition to MERGE. The core semantics of PATCH and MERGE are very similar.

      • What you should know before installing Microsoft WCF Data Services Oct 2010 CTP 1 for .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4:
        • The Microsoft WCF Data Services Oct 2010 CTP 1 for .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4 is a pre-release version of WCF Data Services. While this release is a high-quality stable release, it is not considered a finished product. It is recommended that you do not install this CTP on your primary PC.
        • If you are intending to use the WCF Data Services client library for Microsoft Silverlight 4 included in this CTP, install the Microsoft Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2010 before installing this CTP (available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=b3deb194-ca86-4fb6-a716-b67c2604a139&displayLang=en).
        • Before running the setup, please make sure Visual Studio is closed.
        • This installer includes Oct 2010 CTP 1 assemblies for both the .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4.
        • This is a side by side release with the assemblies shipped with the .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4.
        • For this CTP, the assemblies have been renamed from System to Microsoft. For example, System.Data.Services.dll is included with the .NET Framework 4. The corresponding assembly in this CTP has been renamed to Microsoft.Data.Services.dll
        • If Visual Studio 2010 is installed, the WCF Data Services integration with Visual Studio will automatically be updated. This means that "Add Service Reference" will generate code based on the Oct 2010 CTP 1 assemblies when using either the .NET Framework 4 or Silverlight 4.
        • In Visual Studio, when adding an assembly reference, make sure to navigate to the WCF Data Services Oct 2010 CTP 1 install location.
