The patterns & practices Enterprise Library is a collection of reusable application blocks designed to assist software developers with common enterprise development challenges. This following application blocks are included: Caching Application Block, Cryptography Application Block, Data Access Application Block, Exception Handling Application Block, Logging Application Block, Policy Injection Application Block, Security Application Block, Validation Application Block, and Unity Application Block.
This release includes:
- Support for Visual Studio 2008.
- Integration with the Unity dependency injection container.
- WMI2 support and improved instrumentation.
- Support for pluggable cache managers.
- Performance improvements.

Supported Operating System
Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional Edition
For all application blocks except for the Unity Application Block, the Enterprise Library core features, and the configuration tools, the minimum requirements are:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Vista operating system
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or later
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 development system (any of the following editions):
- Standard Edition
- Professional Edition
- Team Edition for Software Developers
- Team Edition for Software Testers
- Team Edition for Software Architects
- Team Suite

- Click the 'Download' button to commence the download.
- Once the download dialog appears, do one of the following:
- To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
- To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk. Once you are ready to install Enterprise Library 4.0 - May, double-click on the saved file.
- Follow the instructions in the installer program, including accepting the End User Licensing Agreement.
