Microsoft® Response Point™ 1.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduces new-and-improved features that expand your voice service options, empower the administrator to better manage the system, and enhance the phone system experience for everyday users and callers.

In Service Pack 1, Response Point is equipped with a VoIP gateway that allows you to set up cost-saving VoIP service, offered through Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs). With VoIP service, you can configure direct-dial numbers so that your business can have multiple phone numbers, without the hassle and cost of setting up new analog phone lines. Configure VoIP service, analog service, or a combination of both voice services—in SP1, the choice is now yours.

Response Point Administrator gives you more control over how you manage the system. In this service pack, you can monitor and analyze call activity; upgrade phones and phone line adapters when the hardware manufacturer releases the latest firmware; customize answers to questions that callers frequently ask the Automated Receptionist; restrict access on phones in common areas; and play music for callers waiting in park.

Response Point Assistant improves the overall experience for everyday users and callers. In this service pack, you can click-to-call contacts with just two mouse-clicks; specify the most cost-effective voice service for your contacts; and view in-call and parked-call status, so that you can see whether other users are on or off the phone, and whether any parked calls are waiting to be retrieved.

      • Overview: Follow this 4-part process to upgrade Microsoft® Response Point™ 1.0 to Service Pack 1 (SP1). Before you begin upgrading, you must download software and firmware upgrade packages for the following phone system components:
        • Response Point Administrator software
        • Response Point Assistant software
        • Response Point base unit software
        • Device firmware for the phones and phone line adapter (often referred to as the "analog telephony adapter (ATA)" or "PSTN gateway device").

How to download software components: Download the SP1 upgrade package for the Response Point software components directly from this Web page, so that you can perform the software upgrades described in parts 1-3.

        • At the top of this page, click Download to save the contents of a self-extracting Zip file to the hard disk on the administrative computer. Remember where you save the upgrade package so that you can quickly browse to it in parts 1 and 3.

        • Note: The SP1 upgrade package contains important files, folders, and system administration tools, including the utilities folder and readme file, that you might want to review after you've finished the entire upgrade process.

How to download firmware components: Download the SP1 upgrade package for the manufacturer’s firmware components directly from the D-Link, Syspine, or Aastra Web site, so that you can perform the device firmware upgrade described in part 4.
        1. Go to the D-Link, Syspine, or Aastra Web site, and navigate to your hardware manufacturer’s download page.
        2. Follow the instructions to download the firmware components, and save the files to the hard disk on the administrative computer. Remember where you save the upgrade package so that you can quickly browse to it in part 4.

        3. Make sure the files are unzipped so that the configuration wizard can read them.

        4. Note: You will notice an RPU file called "upgrade.rpu" or "ResponsePointUpgrade.rpu" in the upgrade package. This key file helps Response Point locate the upgrade package when you run the configuration wizard in part 4. The RPU file size is 0 bytes.
Now that you've downloaded the required software and firmware components, you can upgrade Response Point 1.0 to Service Pack 1. Complete the steps in part 1 before proceeding to part 2, and so forth.

Part 1: Upgrade the Administrator software on the administrative computer
        1. Browse to the software upgrade package that you saved on the administrative computer.

        2. Double-click Response Point 1.0 SP1 setup, click Browse to choose where you want to unzip the setup files, and click Unzip. The Microsoft Response Point 1.0 SP1 Components InstallShield Wizard opens.

        3. On the first page of the wizard, select the following three check boxes, and click Next:
          • Install Microsoft Response Point Assistant 1.0 SP1.
          • Install Microsoft Response Point Administrator 1.0 SP1.
          • Install Microsoft English Text-to-Speech Engine.
        4. The Assistant is the first software component that the wizard will prompt you to upgrade. Click Install to start the installation, and click Finish when the process is complete.
        5. The Administrator is the second software component that the wizard will prompt you to upgrade. Click Install to start the installation, and click Finish when the process is complete.
The software programs on the administrative computer have been upgraded successfully. The new version number—Version 1 SP1 (Build 1.14.4217.0)—will appear in the About boxes of both the Administrator and Assistant. You can now upgrade the base unit using the SP1 version of the Administrator.

Part 2: Upgrade the base unit software
        1. Start the Administrator program, select the base unit that you want to upgrade from the Base units found on the network list, and click Connect.
        2. In the Connect to the Base Unit dialog box, type the password for the base unit (default: admin), and click Connect.
        3. Click Yes when a message that prompts you to upgrade the base unit appears.
        4. In the Upgrade Response Point Base Unit dialog box, click Upgrade to start the upgrade of the base unit software.

Note: The upgrade may take several minutes to complete. Response Point will create a backup of the phone system configuration, upgrade the software, and then restore the backup to the base unit. During the upgrade, the base unit will not be able to send or receive calls, and any active calls may be interrupted.
The base unit software has been upgraded successfully. On the Base Unit page, under Properties, the Base unit software version field should now display 1.0 SP1 (Build 1.14.4217.0).

Part 3: Upgrade the Assistant software on each workstation computer
        1. Copy Response Point 1.0 SP1 setup to a USB drive.
        2. Plug the USB drive into the first workstation computer that you want to upgrade.
        3. Browse to the upgrade package on the USB drive.
        4. Double-click Response Point 1.0 SP1 setup, click Browse to choose where you want to unzip the setup files, and click Unzip. The Microsoft Response Point 1.0 SP1 Components InstallShield Wizard opens.
        5. On the first page of the wizard, select Install Microsoft Response Point Assistant 1.0 SP1 and Install Microsoft English Text-to-Speech Engine. Make sure the Install Microsoft Response Point Administrator 1.0 SP1 check box is unchecked.
        6. Click Install to start the installation, and click Finish when the process is complete.
        7. Follow steps 2-6 on every workstation computer in your business.
Part 4: Upgrade the device firmware
        1. Start the Administrator program, and click the Phone System button.
        2. In the Tasks pane, click Upgrade Device Firmware to start the configuration wizard.
        3. Click Browse to find the upgrade package (look for the RPU file) that you downloaded from your hardware manufacturer's Web site.
        4. Click Upgrade all devices to which this package applies (recommended), and click Next.
        5. On the Confirmation and warnings page, review the devices in the Devices to be upgraded list, and read the cautionary information regarding the upgrade process.
        6. Click Upgrade to start the process. Do not disturb the devices during the upgrade. Each device may take several minutes for Response Point to upgrade. The Upgrading device firmware page shows you the status of every device—whether the upgrade started, succeeded, failed, or is still in progress. When the process finishes, if you only want to see devices that failed, select the Show only failed upgrades in the list check box.
You've upgraded all of the software and firmware components of Microsoft® Response Point™ 1.0 to Service Pack 1 (SP1). Visit the Response Point Web site to learn more about what's new in the SP1 release. For step-by-step instructions, click Help in both programs. For at-a-glance instructions, see the phone and voicemail quick reference cards in Help.
