KAL enrolled in the Microsoft Office Technology Adoption Program to test Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007, both part of Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Together, these programs provide the enterprise-class project portfolio management that KAL was seeking.

The airline is also testing Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007 as the architectural foundation for Office Project Server 2007; it provides document management and collaboration features while simplifying deployment and management. Team members can use SharePoint Enterprise Search to search through hundreds of previous and current projects to find needed content, processes, and people that will help them make better decisions.

“Office Project Server 2007 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 contain a great many built-in features that will enable us to provide our users with personalized project status team sites without much customization work,” says Mr. Seong Yeon Park, Deputy Manager of the Corporate Strategic Division at Korean Airlines.

Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000 serves as the document database. Office Project Server 2007 features improved database synchronization, which results in more efficient data transfers between Office Project Professional 2007 and Office Project Server 2007. The new Active Cache architecture provides greater responsiveness for all users and a much better offline work experience with Office Project Professional 2007.
With its new Microsoft Enterprise Project Management solution, KAL project managers will be able to instantly grasp and measure schedule and budget compliance with tools such as red, yellow, and green graphical indicators. Executives also have portfolio dashboards that aggregate multiple-project status and cost information into graphical reports that show, at a glance, how projects are doing.
