In this tutorial, you will learn the process of creating a component by using Component Designer, the companion Microsoft Windows NT Embedded 4.0 authoring tool to Target Designer.

A Windows NT Embedded 4.0 component is a composition of files and registry entries that provides functionality in a configuration. A component can be a device driver, system service, or application. Using Component Designer, you can create a custom component. Then, by using Target Designer, you can import the component into the Target Designer system database and add it to a configuration.

After completing this tutorial, you can return to the Target Designer tutorial to learn how to add a custom component to a configuration.
