This documentation describes how to use Dexterity, which is the application development system used to create Microsoft Dynamics GP.

      Help files (Dexterity Help Files.exe)
      This .exe file includes the following Help files:
      • Dexterity Help (Dex.chm): Includes information about building applications using Dexterity, and also includes contextual help for windows in the Dexterity tool.
      • Dexterity Utilities Help (DexUtils.chm): Describes utilities you can use to construct, compile, and query Dexterity dictionaries.
      • Microsoft Dynamics GP Integration Help (IG.chm): Includes the Microsoft Dynamics GP integration information in HTML Help format.

      Manuals in PDF or XPS format (Dexterity Manuals PDF.exe or Dexterity Manuals XPS.exe)
      These .exe files include the following manuals:
      • Comprehensive Index (CMPINDEX.pdf or CMPINDEX.xps): Contains a compilation of all the indexes in the Dexterity documentation set, which you can use to look up topics in any of the Dexterity manuals.
      • Dexterity Components (COMPNT.pdf or COMPNT.xps): Describes the components included with Dexterity.
      • Dexterity Utilities (DEXUTIL.pdf or DEXUTIL.xps): Explains how to use Dexterity Utilities to manage the dictionaries you create using Dexterity, and includes reference information about the utilities and reports that are included.
      • Function Library Reference (FUNCTLIB.pdf or FUNCTLIB.xps): Contains detailed reference information about the functions in each Dexterity function library.
      • Microsoft Dynamics GP Integration Guide (IG.pdf or IG.xps): Explains interface and programming conventions and describes how to develop a Dexterity-based component that integrates with Microsoft Dynamics GP in a runtime environment.
      • Programmer's Guide Volume 1 (PRGV1.pdf or PRGV1.xps): Describes the Dexterity development system used to create and package applications and manage development.
      • Programmer's Guide Volume 2 (PRGV2.pdf or PRGV2.xps): Introduces sanScript, and explains how to add scripts to a Dexterity application and work with controls and tables. Also describes advanced scripting tools, the development process for Dexterity-based applications, and the integrated source code debugger in Dexterity.
      • Quick Start (QSTART.pdf or QSTART.xps): Contains overview information and lessons to introduce you to creating applications with Dexterity.
      • sanScript Reference (SANSCRPT.pdf or SANSCRPT.xps): Contains descriptions of all functions and statements in sanScript.
      • Stand-alone Application Guide (STNDALON.pdf or STNDALON.xps): Explains how to create a stand-alone application. Topics include developing pathname support, online help, and security, as well as using tools such as Modifier and Report Writer. Dictionaries included with Dexterity also are described.
  • Supported Operating System

    Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP

      • To view the PDF files, you will need a PDF reader, such as the free Adobe Reader.
      • To view the XPS files, you will need Windows Vista or the Microsoft XML Paper Specification Essentials Pack.
      1. Click Download to download the manuals or help as an .exe file.
      2. Save the file to your computer.
      3. To extract the manuals or help files from the .exe file, double-click the .exe file on your computer.
      4. When prompted for a location for the files, we recommend that you save them to the appropriate folder in your Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 installation folder, so you can access the updated help and manuals from within the product. By default, this location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dexterity\Dex 10.0\.
      5. Repeat these steps on each computer where you want to install the manuals or help, or save the files to a shared folder where other others can access them.
