      The 2007 release of the Microsoft Office system features a new, XML-based default file format for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, in addition to a variety of compatibility features to assist with legacy format interoperability. This white paper describes file compatibility considerations that IT professionals should take into account when planning to deploy and operate 2007 Microsoft Office, in addition to describing the tools available to assist along the way including the Office Migration Planning Manager, Compatibility Pack, and Group Policy settings. Guidance is provided for a number of deployment scenarios.
