Kinect for Windows hardware is tested, optimized, and designed to operate on computers running Windows 7, Windows Embedded Standard 7, and Windows 8 Developer Preview (desktop applications only). It also provides a fully supported end-user experience.
The Kinect for Windows sensor is available in the United States, for a suggested retail price of US $249. For qualified students and faculty in the United States, we offer academic pricing on Kinect for Windows sensors.
In addition, the Kinect for Windows sensor is available through Microsoft distributors in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Starting in June, Kinect for Windows will be available in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, India, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

Note: The sensor unit does not ship with any software, and will only operate with an application developed for Kinect for Windows. In addition, the Kinect for Windows sensor is intended to be used with the Kinect for Windows SDK or an application that was developed with this SDK. The SDK includes drivers, APIs, sample code and more.
