What are the "KN" versions of Windows Server 2003, R2, Standard Enterprise Editions? How are they different from Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard and Enterprise Editions?
In compliance with the Korean Fair Trade Commission Order, Microsoft produces for distribution in the Republic of Korea unique versions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition, and Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition (32-bit). These versions do not include Windows Media Services. The “KN” versions of Windows Server 2003 are named Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition KN (32-bit), and Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition KN (32-bit). Note that computer manufacturers may pre-install third-party media server software on computers running these new versions of Windows Server 2003. Korean consumers may also separately install media server software, either from Microsoft or a third party. Consistent with our agreement with the Commission, we have made these versions of Windows Server available to computer manufacturers with whom Microsoft has direct relationships, system builders (small computer manufacturers), and volume licensing customers such as corporations. The regular versions of Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition, and Windows Server 2003 R2, Enterprise Edition, will continue to include Windows Media Services but will not be available to Korean consumers.
