  • Mapping Resource Group Goes Digital with an UltraCamLp

Graz, Austria — November 20, 2012 — Mapping Resource Group (MRG), an aerial mapping and photogrammetry company with headquarters in Flagler Beach, Florida, has contracted with Microsoft’s UltraCam business unit to purchase an UltraCamLp photogrammetric digital aerial camera system. With the purchase of the UltraCamLp, MRG will move out of analogue collection and processing and operate completely in a digital environment.

MRG typically handles small projects (200–2,000 acres) with a quick turnaround for private clients, DOTs, and state and local governments. Although the digital datasets produced by the UltraCamLp are larger than analogue datasets, MRG will use advanced workflow software to expedite the processing activities, such as automatic A/T and ortho generation, balancing and mosaicking.

“MRG has been operating in both digital and analogue technologies for some time, but with an improving economy, I feel that now is the right time to fully adopt digital,” stated Mr. Charles Smith, President, Mapping Resource Group. “The combination of a medium-sized camera footprint with the highly efficient software available today led me to select the UltraCamLp as the system offering the best price-to-performance value for a system in its class.”

Winner of the Technology Innovation category in the 4th Annual MAPPS Geospatial Products and Services Excellence Awards competition, the UltraCamLp features an image footprint collection capacity of 92 megapixels (11,704 x 7,920 pixels pan). The UltraCamLp combines innovative hardware, electronics, and software that result in an efficient camera system capable of collecting five spectral bands per exposure: red, green, blue, and near-infrared data, in addition to the higher-resolution panchromatic data.

“Microsoft believes the UltraCamLp is an ideal solution for MRG’s project needs,” said Alexander Wiechert, Microsoft Business Director. “This acquisition of an UltraCamLp by MRG underscores the diversity of the UltraCam product line, with a solution for organizations with different needs.”
