Show, Hide, or Turn Off the Office Assistant

As you begin working with Microsoft® Office 2000 programs, the animated Office Assistant, jumps in to offer helpful messages as you work. You can turn off the Office Assistant and use the keyboard to find help.

Note:  Any options you change will affect the Office Assistant in all Office 2000 programs.

On the Menu bar, click Help.

To open the Help menu, press ALT+H.

Click Show the Office Assistant or Hide the Office Assistant.

To Show the Office Assistant or Hide the Office Assistant, press O.

How to turn off the Office Assistant

Note:  Any options you change will affect the Office Assistant in all Office 2000 programs.

If the Office Assistant is on your screen

Right-click the Assistant icon.

To show the Assistant dialog box, press ALT+H, then H.

In the Assistant balloon, click Options.

In the Assistant balloon, open the Options dialog box by pressing ALT+O.

On the Options tab, click the Use the Office Assistant check box.

Click OK.

On the Options tab, clear the Use the Office Assistant check box by pressing ALT+U.

Press ENTER.

If the Office Assistant is hidden

On the Menu bar, click Help.

To show the Assistant dialog box, press ALT+H, then H.

Click Show the Office Assistant, then right-click the Assistant icon.

In the Assistant balloon, click Options.

In the Assistant balloon, open the Options dialog box by pressing ALT+O.

On the Options tab, click the Use the Office Assistant check box.

On the Options tab, clear the Use the Office Assistant check box by pressing ALT+U.
