Changing the Icon Size

Microsoft® Windows® 98 allows you to change the size of the icons displayed on your desktop. This can make the system easier to view and can reduce eyestrain.

1 On the Start menu, point to Settings.
  • Click Control Panel.
Display the Start menu by pressing CTRL+ESC (or the Windows logo key).
  • Move to Settings by pressing S.
  • Select Control Panel by pressing C.
2 In Control Panel:
  • Double-click the Display icon.
If the focus is not on Control Panel, press TAB.
  • Move to the Display icon by using the arrow keys.
  • Press ENTER.
3 In the Display Properties dialog box:
  • Click the Effects tab.
In the Display Properties dialog box:
  • Move to the Background tab by pressing SHIFT+TAB.
  • Move to the Effects tab by pressing the RIGHT ARROW key.
4 On the Effects tab, in the Visual effects area:
  • Click the Use large icons check box.
On the Effects tab, in the Visual effects area:
  • Move to the Use large icons check box by pressing ALT+L.
  • Select the check box by pressing SPACEBAR.
5 Click OK. Press ENTER.

The Effects tab enables you to change the size of your icons.
