Turn on High Contrast and change the settings

High Contrast heightens the color contrast of some text and images on your computer screen, making those items more distinct and easier to identify. Increasing the contrast in colors reduces eyestrain and makes things easier to read for many people.

To open the Ease of Access Center, select:

  • Start.
  • Control Panel.
  • Ease of Access.
  • Ease of Access Center.

To open the Ease of Access Center, press:

  • Windows logo key Windows logo key+U.

Under Quick access to common tools, select:

  • Set up High Contrast.

Under Quick access to common tools, select:

  • Set up High Contrast by pressing ALT+U.

Under High Contrast, select:

  • Choose a High Contrast color scheme.

Under High Contrast, select:

  • Choose a High Contrast color scheme by pressing ENTER.

Under Color scheme, select:

  • One of the High Contrast options from the list.
  • OK.
  • Select Color scheme, by pressing ALT+C.
  • Choose a color scheme from the list by pressing the arrow keys, then ENTER.

Under High Contrast, to use the shortcut to turn High Contrast on or off, select:

  • Turn on High Contrast when left ALT + left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN is pressed.

  • Turn on High Contrast when left ALT + left SHIFT + PRINT SCREEN is pressed by pressing ALT+L.

When using keyboard shortcuts to turn Ease of Access settings on, select one or both of these notification options:

  • Display a warning message when turning a setting on for a visual notification.
  • Make a sound when turning a setting on or off, for a sound notification.
  • Select Save.
