Hybrid Clouds with a Single Pane of Glass

Synopsis: In this session we look at Microsoft Hybrid cloud which is a mixture of Hyper-V private cloud and the Azure Public cloud. Using System Center App Controller as a single pane of glass to manage both private and public cloud resources we look at how to create services that span both cloud environments. We will look at how to connect App Controller to Windows Azure Virtual Machines and show how to upload a VM image or VHD stored in the VMM library to Azure Virtual Machines. Finally we explore the management capabilities of App Controller for both Private cloud and Azure Virtual Machines.

Bill Hilf
General Manager, Technical Computing
Microsoft Corp.

Bill Hilf is the General Manager for Windows Azure Product Management, which includes responsibility for planning, technical and core product management for the Windows Azure cloud computing platform. Prior to this role, Bill oversaw world-wide business, product strategy and marketing for the Technical Computing group at Microsoft. This group built solutions for a broad range of scientific and engineering challenges. Prior, Bill led the Windows Server Marketing group for two years and his first role at Microsoft was leading the Platform Strategy Group, helping bridge the Microsoft and Open Source communities. Bill runs a sports charity for homeless children in the Philippines called High Five Hope.

Kamal Hathi
General Manager, Business Intelligence, Microsoft Corporation

Kamal is the Director of the BI Group in Microsoft SQL Server. He is responsible for managing the overall strategy, design, development and delivery of SQL Server business intelligence technologies. The foundation of Microsoft’s end-to-end business intelligence solutions, SQL Server delivers an innovative platform and tools which help organizations worldwide easily build and deploy robust business intelligence solutions at all scales with low total cost of ownership. Since joining Microsoft in 1996, Kamal has served in engineering management roles in various product groups and was one of the founding members of Microsoft’s Business Intelligence efforts.

Mark Souza
General Manager – Microsoft Business Platform Division, Microsoft Corporation

Mark Souza is a General Manager in the Microsoft Business Platform Division. He is responsible for all Customer/Partner interaction, Content and Community for the business platform products at Microsoft: Middleware, Database and Cloud. Using Customer Experiences he ensures the BPD division is building and shipping products that customers need to build enterprise class solutions. He is responsible for building the best, most vibrant technical community in the world. He also ensures that the Business Platform community has the highest quality content at their fingertips at the time they need it.

Stuart Ozer
General Manage – SQL Customer Advisor Team (CAT), Microsoft Corporation

Stuart Ozer manages the SQL Server Customer Advisory Team (SQLCAT). CAT is a team of database professionals and architects inside the product group who advise customers and partners designing and deploying the highest-scale and most demanding applications built on SQL Server worldwide. The team helps set priorities for future innovation in Microsoft’s application platform products, and presents best practices and deep technical training for Transaction Processing, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence workloads. Stuart’s recent personal efforts included driving customer engagements with the recently-released, scaled-out Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW) – the MPP database offering from Microsoft. Stuart has been at Microsoft for 12 years. His work included 2 years inside Microsoft Research working for the late Jim Gray, where he collaborated with biologists in inventing a series of database-centric techniques for use in gene and protein sequence analysis.

Richard Qi
Technical Evangelist

Richard is the Technical Evangelist in Microsoft Singapore Developer and Platform Evangelism Team. He is responsible for driving excitement of Microsoft technologies to technical audiences. He works with customers, partners and IT Professionals to understand and explore Microsoft Virtualization and Private Cloud technologies. He delivers training on virtualization, System Center and Private Cloud for IT Professionals. He also speaks at events and conferences like TechDays Singapore, Datacenter Dynamics, and Microsoft TechNet Events.

Lai Yoong Seng
Technical Consultant (MVP), Infront Consulting

Lai, Virtual Machine MVP has more than 10 years of IT industry experience and is a Technical Consultant for Infront Consulting Group. He specializes in Hyper-V and System Center products. Lai has actively presents at local events and community such as Microsoft Virtualization Day, Microsoft Cloud Day, Microsoft Tech-Ed New Zealand (2011), MVUG, TechInsight, ELITE and SCUG events. He is actively blog on Virtualization and System Center at http://www.ms4u.info and is the founder of Malaysia Virtualization User Group (MVUG).

Mingfei Yan
Program Manager, Microsoft

Mingfei (@mingfeiy) is working as Program Manager in Windows Azure Media team in Microsoft, for building the coolest video streaming technology. With Media service Nimbus, people could create, manage and deliver media content in the cloud to all kinds of devices – Xbox, Windows8, iOS and etc. Prior to this PM role, Mingfei worked as a Developer Evangelist in Singapore, responsible for driving excitement of Microsoft technologies and working with customers and partners to build innovative stuff. She is a frequent speaker in many local and global conferences such as Teched and TechDays, mainly talking about Windows Azure

Daniel Mar
Principal Consultant, Infront Consulting

Daniel is an experienced consultant with over 12 years the IT industry. He has been specializing in server virtualization for the past 7 years where he started by deploying technologies from VMware. Along the way he picked up Citrix virtualization solutions and now focuses on Microsoft Virtualization and Systems Management. He has helped many companies small and large move from a purely physical infrastructure to a highly available virtual infrastructure and now more recently to help them deploy private cloud infrastructures.

David Allen
