| Modern Server Infrastructure |
Yields Big Rewards
| Looking for an investment that pays off with big business benefits? Then consider modernizing your server infrastructure. It can lower your IT operating costs, boost your business productivity, and give you the scalability to handle peak business loads. |
“It doesn’t matter where you are; you are nowhere compared to where you can go.” - Business Coach Bob Proctor, speaking about the constructive nature of change.
Change is a fact of life, especially the life of the IT manager. New IT products and services roll out at a breathtaking pace, while the business demands on the IT department come fast and furious.
Consider the changes in the datacenter. Over the last few years, it’s morphed from a repository of physical servers to a collection of virtual ones. Yes, you’ve virtualized it, but you know that’s just one step in its ongoing progression. So what’s the next rung in the evolutionary ladder? How about the creation of modern server infrastructure, one that takes virtualization to the next level: cloud computing.
That’s exactly the direction that Pella, an Iowa-based manufacturer of windows and doors, took, prompted in part by the slowdown in construction brought on by the Great Recession. Having previously virtualized the datacenter, Pella wanted to make its already-lean IT staff as efficient as possible—making sure staffers were supporting business initiatives rather than spending hours a day maintaining and configuring servers.
And Pella is not the only organization to drive dramatic results. EmpireCLS, a global provider of chauffeured transportation services is another company that’s taken the leap from virtualization to cloud computing. By turning to cloud computing, EmpireCLS created an IT environment that is dynamically reconfigurable on demand in an automated fashion. Resources can be scaled to match workloads, resulting in increased flexibility and efficiency. The key was automating the many steps required to dynamically provision and de-provision virtual machines, monitor workloads, identify and resolve problems, and request human intervention when needed.
