Schneider Electric and Microsoft leverage respective business technologies to produce easy-to-use, interoperable software solutions for utilities.
Schneider Electric and Microsoft will work together to leverage key aspects of their respective technologies, resulting in more scalable solutions with higher performance and increased security at a lower cost for utilities throughout the world.
This collaboration will allow Schneider Electric greater access to Microsoft technology and resources to address the most pressing needs of the smart grid age, including performance metrics, response times and security. Schneider Electric will also incorporate more of Microsoft’s Smart Energy Reference Architecture (SERA) and cloud computing platform.
As a result, utilities will benefit from reduced IT costs, easier-to-implement upgrades and more convenient monthly software fees rather than large, capital-intensive IT projects. Schneider Electric is a Gold Certified Partner of Microsoft and already utilizes the Microsoft platform.
Smart Operations
Real-time information is the key to profitability on the Smart Grid. However, Smart Grid technology relies on an overwhelming amount of data and two-way communications within the grid network.
Schneider Electric helps you harness the flood of information generated by newly deployed communications networks and intelligent field devices. Using a single, unified data repository, Schneider Electric turns this information into real-time business intelligence that drives smarter decisions across your entire enterprise.
Schneider Electric can help your utility gain smarter operations with our operational efficiency solutions including: Distribution Management System (DMS), Reponder Outage Management System (OMS), ArcFM Geospacial.
Information System (GIS), ArcFM Designer and Designer Express for Graphic Workflow Design (GWD) and ArcFM Fiber Manager for fiber communications.
Smart Network Devices
The primary source of real-time data in your Smart Grid will be your remote terminal unit (RTU) equipment. As Smart Grid technology advances, utilities need more powerful RTU devices to harness the real-time information for both transmission and distribution.
Although utilities have been installing Remote Terminal Units (RTU) in transmission stations for decades, these legacy units are not able to support the needs of evolving Smart Grid technology. To support the mission of the Smart Grid, utilities need to install more powerful and advanced RTU devices throughout the distribution network.
Schneider Electric offers utility companies more than 30 years of experience with our Sage and Saitel brands and has become an industry leader in the RTU category, with more than 10,000 units installed. With its Smart Grid Solutions Suite, Schneider Electric provides utilities with the equipment and expertise needed to run a smarter distribution.
Smart Metering
For utilities planning and deploying significant advanced meter technology systems (AMI), which are essential to their Smart Grid strategy, their choice of a meter data management (MDM) solution is perhaps the most critical decision.
As a world leader in real-time automation control and information management solutions for the energy industry, Schneider Electric has successfully implemented some of the world's largest multi-vendor AMI deployments. With a complete suite of Smart Grid applications, Schneider Electric is focused on supporting the world’s electric utilities as they embrace the next generation in efficient, sustainable power grid management.
Schneider Electric Utilities Group solution suite is designed for electric, gas and water/wastewater utilities.
