Read the following case study that is dedicated to power management.
o Dell is committed to conserving energy within the corporation by improving the power management of in-house computers. Dell utilizes 1E Nightwatchman to manage this environment. By deploying 1E’s NightWatchman applications to its 50,000 client computers, Dell expects to realize up to a 40 percent reduction in computer-related energy costs, which could translate into US$1.8 million in savings annually.
The U.K. Peterborough City Council is determined to reduce its carbon emissions. As part of this commitment, the Council turned to Nightwatchman from Intelligent Windows Management and Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS). The goal is to enforce the shutdown of PCs and portable PCs, and to improve the operational efficiency of the IT department. Each year, allowing for inflation, the Council expects to save UK£50,000 in electricity costs, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 250 tons.
The University of Southern Denmark has cut its energy bills and improved the quality of the working day with the aid of the1E Patch Management Pack. It can now switch on computers remotely overnight for a brief time in order to apply patches, eliminating disruptions to users during the day and saving an estimated $180,000 on electricity each year.
Out-of-hours patching reduces an enterprise’s disruption—but if that means PCs being left on overnight, it also results in unnecessary energy use. Eye expert, VSP, selected the 1E Patch Management Pack to mitigate this issue. VSP now can distribute software out of hours while at the same time realizing $145,000 a year in energy and hardware savings.
