Microsoft is hosting its 3rd annual eHealth event that examines how ICT can enable advanced patient-centric healthcare in Europe.

The event has consisted of open forum discussions that explore how different stakeholders view the future of eHealth. Regardless of the current economic crisis, citizens and patients will continue to expect high quality healthcare systems and services. This means that governments effectively need to re- engineer their national systems and consider approaches to healthcare delivery which will stretch their pre-existing resources. The event brought perspectives from around 80 thought-leaders in the European medical and technology community, including health organisations involved in innovative telemedicine projects, European policy experts and policymakers.

The topics of discussion included:

◾The future of health and well-being delivered more efficiently and for more people;

◾The socio-economic potential of eHealth technologies, exploring those created by innovative European small to medium sized businesses (SMEs);

◾Demonstrate the vital value of disruptive technologies, such as Natural User Interfaces (NUI) and cloud computing, for the effectiveness of remote care and for better outcomes and efficiency of patient relationship management;

◾The launch of the ‘Manifesto for an eHealthier Europe’ (New! Download a copy of the manifesto here), on eHealth as a sector of growth, innovation and competitiveness;

Most importantly this event hasreminded participants that is “everybody’s business” - providers, citizens and patients, technology vendors and partner companies, researchers, professionals, governments and payers alike.
