Windows 2000 Be Sure it's Legal

Retail Products

All products sold through the retail channel are marketed in brightly coloured boxes. Look for the re-designed Certificate of Authenticity Label on the right spine of your Windows 2000 box.

The CD-ROM Hologram appears on Windows 2000 CD-ROMs in both Retail and OEM product. Look for the product- and language-specific hologram that covers the entire surface of the CD-ROM.

When purchasing a PC from a brand name computer manufacturer, you may receive the manufacturer's recovery CD with your PC.
Windows 2000 Professional Products for retail distribution are never distributed in a simple CD-ROM jewelcase.

The Retail COA Label appears on the right spine of the Retail product box. The purple thermo-chromic rectangle fades to white when touched.

Microsoft licenses Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to distribute certain Microsoft software products with the OEM's hardware. Products that have been licensed to an OEM should be distributed ONLY with that OEM's hardware and never alone.
certificate When distributed with a new PC, Microsoft Windows 2000 will include a Certificate of Authenticity label on the computer chassis. These products will also include a manual.
   
1. Copper holographic interwoven thread reveals the words 'Genuine' and 'Microsoft'.
2. Product-specific name printed on label.
3. Unique product key identification feature.
4. Microsoft logo changes colour between gold and silver with movement.
