Event Overview

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 introduced many security enhancements, from data encryption to advanced context impersonation. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 further helps administrators protect their database with the introduction of new features such as Transparent Database Encryption, Extensible Key Management, and Auditing. In this session, we describe the new security enhancements in SQL Server 2008 and discuss how to best take advantage of them.

Presenter:  Il-Sung Lee , Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation

Il-Sung Lee is a program manager (PM) for the storage engine team in the Microsoft SQL Server product group and he is the PM owner for SQL Server Engine Security. Il-Sung has 10 years of experience in the database industry as a developer and a program manager, focusing on database communications and database security. His current focus is to advance the capabilities of SQL Server in areas such as authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit. He has presented at Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) and DevConnections, in addition to multiple DB2 conferences over the past several years. Il-Sung graduated with a master's of engineering (M.Eng) degree from McGill University and subsequently worked seven years for IBM in their information management group before joining Microsoft in 2005.
