In this session, we cover new technologies like Resource Governor, data compression, and enhanced indexed views.

Presenter:  Eric Hanson, Lead Program Manager , Microsoft Corporation , and Torsten Grabs, Senior Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation

Eric Hanson is the Lead Program Manager for Query Processing in the SQL Server Relational Engine team. He is the owner of the data warehouse scalability scenario for the SQL Server "Katmai" release. He received his BS in computer science from Cornell in 1983 and his PhD in computer science (database systems) from UC Berkeley in 1987. He served for four years as an officer in the US Air Force. He was a member of the database research group in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering department at the University of Florida from 1992-2001 where he received tenure and attained the rank of associate professor. He formed a software company related to his research at the University of Florida, where he worked until 2002 before coming to Microsoft.
