Event Overview

This webcast is for IT professionals who want to know what they need to consider when planning an upgrade from Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. Learn about the tools best suited for preparing and implementing the upgrade to SQL Server 2008, find out why and when to use each of the upgrade tools, and determine whether an in-place upgrade or a side-by-side upgrade strategy is better for your situation. We discuss the factors that help you decide how much pre-upgrade testing to plan for based on the level of effort versus the level of risk, and we help you become familiar with the upgrade tools and methodologies so you can tailor your SQL Server upgrades appropriately. This material is an introduction to some of the information being presented at the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) preconference session "Upgrading to SQL Server 2008 in Complex Environments" on November 18, 2008.

Presenter:  Rebecca Laszlo, Principal Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation , and Joe Yong, Chief Architect , Scalability Experts

Having cut his database teeth on Oracle, Joe then spent almost a decade working for Microsoft, both with the SQL Server product group in Redmond and out in the field with customers and partners designing, deploying, and managing large database systems. Some of the projects Joe has worked on include airport security systems, government human resource systems, and a scoring and analysis system for a PGA tournament. Joe is also a regular speaker at various U.S. and international conferences and seminars, including Tech·Ed, Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), and SSUG, and he has published articles about SQL Server and Oracle.
