In this session, we provide an in-depth preview of our new performance monitoring tools for Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The objectives of this session include:
- Understand the architecture of how SQL Server 2008 collects performance and diagnostic data and presents the information in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
- Develop a plan for enabling performance data collection and analyzing the results for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Learn how to create your own collection sets and manage the performance data collection warehouse database.

Bill Ramos is a lead program manager with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools team, where he is responsible for the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio UI and performance tools. His team develops Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft SQL Server Profiler, and other management capabilities. Bill joined the Microsoft team more than 12 years ago, and has worked on the Microsoft Visual Studio data tools, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Office Access, Microsoft Office Excel, and SQL Server.
Niraj Nagrani is a senior product manager with the Microsoft SQL Server Technical Marketing team, where he is responsible for driving positioning, messaging, and evangelism of various features of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to the IT pro audience.
