Expanded transport conditions. Enable your administrators to create more granular transport rules. For example, Exchange 2010 can now scan the actual contents of an Office Outlook attachment and can use iFilters, which provide additional support for third-party file types. Transport rules can also be created based on a user’s Active Directory attributes (such as department, country, or manager) as well as different message types, including out of office auto-replies and calendaring items.
MailTips. Alert the sender of an e-mail message of certain conditions that may result in policy violations or unintended delivery. For example, MailTips generates an alert if a message is addressed to a large audience or if the recipient is external, restricted, or moderated. Administrators can also create MailTips to provide customized alerts that are based on characteristics of specific recipients. MailTips is available in both Outlook Web App and Microsoft Outlook 2010.
Transport protection rules. When transport protection rules are used with Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS), an administrator can automatically apply Information Rights Management (IRM) protection to e-mail (including Office and XPS attachments) after a message is sent. These rules provide persistent protection to the file no matter where it is sent, internally or externally outside the network, and prevent forwarding, copying, or printing depending on the set of AD RMS policy templates that are available from the AD RMS deployment.
Outlook protection rules. These rules automatically trigger Outlook to apply an RMS template that is based on sender or recipient identities before a message is sent. With Outlook protection rules, administrators can also enable users to turn off protection for non-sensitive e-mail. Also, because the messages are protected at the desktop before they are sent out to Exchange, Outlook protection rules allow your organization to keep third-party service providers or onsite Exchange administrators from viewing sensitive content that is sent between your employees.
Support for IRM in Outlook Web App. Your users can read and reply to (as well as reply-all, forward, block print, cut/copy) IRM-protected messages natively, just as they would in Outlook. IRM-protected messages in Outlook Web App can be accessed through Windows Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari (no plug-ins required), and Outlook Web App includes full-text search, conversation view, and preview pane.
Protected voice mail. Exchange Server 2010 uses AD RMS to apply Do Not Forward permissions to voice messages that are designated by the sender (by marking the message as private) or by administrative policy. This function keeps users from forwarding protected voice messages in a playable form to unauthorized persons no matter what mail client is used.
Transport decryption. Enables transport agents to access to IRM-protected messages to filter content, apply transport rules, scan for viruses and spam, and perform other essential functions.
Journal decryption. Transport decryption can also be used with journaling to ensure that journal reports sent to journal mailboxes or third-party archives contain a decrypted (clear-text) copy of IRM-protected messages, including and Office and XPS attachments. Transport decryption allows IRM-protected messages to be indexed and searched for legal discovery and regulatory purposes.
IRM search. IRM search enables indexing and searching of IRM-protected messages, including headers, subject, body, and attachments. IRM search is available through Outlook Web App, Outlook 2010 (online mode) and Multi-Mailbox Search.
Moderation. Moderation redirects mail to a manager or trusted moderator for review. The reviewer can then approve or block the message and, if the message is blocked, provide an explanation back to the sender.
Dynamic signatures. Dynamic signatures automatically apply a signature to the bottom of an e-mail message based on sender’s Active Directory attributes. This feature can also be configured to apply rich HTML signatures with specific fonts, your company logo, and more.
