Forefront Threat Management Gateway Medium Business Edition is licensed in the processor licensing model. Under this model, a license is required for each physical or virtual processor accessed by an operating system environment running ISA Server. This license does not require any device or user CALs.
The Web Antimalware Subscription is an optional subscription service that is licensed on a per user, per year subscription model. Windows Essential Business Server customers receive 1 year of the Web Antimalware Subscription service with the purchase of Essential Business Server, and would need to renew the subscription thereafter. TMG MBE standalone customers who want to activate the Web antimalware service will need to purchase the Web Antimalware Subscription license separately.

While TMG MBE is built on top of existing ISA capabilities and is part of the TMG family, it is not the next version of the ISA Server. TMG MBE standalone customers cannot downgrade to the any previous version of the ISA Server.
TMG MBE standalone does not have a Software Assurance coverage option and will not be eligible to upgrade to the next version of TMG.
