TECH POLICY FEATURE: STRENGTHENING THE U.S. PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE
Since our nation's beginning, we've had a patent system that encourages innovation. In today's knowledge economy, patents play an especially critical role. Software patents enable developers to protect the value of their work and at the same time share their successes with the world. In March, the House passed H.R. 1561, which will add improvements to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Now we need the Senate to act as well. You can send email to your Senators to let them know where you stand on this issue by visiting http://www.freetoinnovate.com.

For the election year, we've set up a special FIN "Get Out and Vote!" Web site. At this site, it's easy to register to vote, obtain an absentee ballot and learn about candidates in your area.
