TAKE ACTION NOW FOR THE TECHNOLOGY COMMUNITY! Tell Your Representative - TPA Must Pass
Twice in the past year we have asked FIN members across the nation to voice your support for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), first as it made its way through the House of Representatives, and then later, the Senate.
Both times you heard and responded - and your response helped. Both bills passed and moved to a Conference Committee where members of both the House and Senate have shaped a single bill that will now be voted on by the entire Congress.
Now your voice is needed again. The stakes are high. Here are just a few facts about how trade benefits our nation, the technology industry and the economy:
- Over the last decade, exports accounted for 25% of U.S. economic growth and supported more than 12 million jobs.
- In 2000, American companies exported $134 billion in high-tech products to every corner of the globe.
- Exports account for more than half of the American software industry's annual revenues.
This is a critical time for the country and for the technology industry.
With TPA the President can negotiate international trade agreements, and Congress must vote them up-or-down. No amendments, no special-interest riders could impede trade agreements that benefit consumers.
With TPA, the high-tech industry will have help in the fight against software piracy - that amounts to more than $12 billion in annual losses. That's $12 billion of wealth not created, $12 billion not pumped into our economy.
Without TPA, international trade will be impaired. That would put the technology community and our economy as a whole at risk - and that's a risk we can't afford to take.
TPA must pass.
Remind your Representative that TPA promotes international trade -- and that international trade is not only good for the country, it's the platform our economy and our technology industry run on.
TAKE ACTION NOW!
Thanks to all the FIN Members who have taken action in the past. Now we need your help again. The House is likely to vote this Friday and every FIN Member should take just a few minutes to let your U.S. Representative know where you stand on TPA.
Follow the link below, and in a few easy steps, you can send e-mail or call your elected official in order to communicate your views on this vital issue.
