Note: Keyboard commands (such as CTRL+D/D)
are listed with combat commands first, Flight Simulator/CFS version 1 commands second.
A POTENTIAL CHEAT
If you press certain keys or perform certain actions during a Multiplayer
flight, your aircraft enters a "suspended state" in which it is suspended in midair,
but other players see it continuing on its last known path. In this state your aircraft
doesn't sustain damage until you undo the key command event.
For example, pressing CTRL+D/D displays the scoreboard; pressing CTRL+D/D
again dismisses the scoreboard and resumes your game. In the suspended state before
you dismiss the scoreboard, your plane can fly through terrain where others can't
follow.
During Multiplayer flight, any player can use the following keystrokes or actions
to enter the suspended state:
ALT
(pulls down menus)
CTRL+D/D
(displays scoreboard)
ESC
(displays "Are you sure you want to exit this Multiplayer session?" message)
ALT+F4
(displays "Are you sure you want to exit Microsoft® Combat Flight Simulator?" message)
Resize or move the application window
Right-click the mouse
During Multiplayer flight, the Host can use the keystrokes or actions listed
above to enter the suspended state. Also, when a new player requests to join the
Multiplayer session, the Host sees a dialog that automatically puts the Host into
the suspended state until he or she decides what to do with the player requesting
to join. After choosing one of the four dialog options (Allow pilot to join, Refuse
pilot entry, Wait till next game, and Allow all pilots to join), the Host is automatically
taken out of the suspended state. If "Allow all pilots to join" is chosen, the Host
will never see the dialog or be suspended again.
To see when other players have entered this suspended state and to catch potential
cheaters, edit the [MULTIPLAYER] section of COMBATFS.CFG file so that
SP_DISPLAY_CHEAT_WARNINGS= 1
After making this change, you will see the message "
has entered a suspended state" whenever someone does so. If a player enters a suspended
state more than twice during a game, the player's score is displayed with an asterisk
(*) after it. This information is broadcast regardless of whether players have changed
their COMBATFS.CFG file. Doing so simply allows you to see when other players may
have cheated.
STARTING CFS2 BEFORE ESTABLISHING YOUR DIAL-UP CONNECTION
If you are running Combat Flight Simulator in full-screen mode, you may encounter
problems starting an Internet Multiplayer session if you have not started your dial-up
Internet connection before starting CFS2. In this situation, Combat Flight Simulator
2 may stop functioning. To avoid this, either start your Internet connection before
starting Combat Flight Simulator 2, or switch back to windowed mode first by pressing
ALT+ENTER
.
TACTICAL DISPLAY
The Tactical Display defaults to showing aircraft only. There may be hidden
goals at some waypoints that include enemy ships and ground objects. If you find
that you are failing mission goals, and you shot up everything you saw, you might
want to change the tactical display to show all objects, not just aircraft.
FUEL USAGE
There are some fuel-critical missions that you will fail if you fly real-time
(not using warp) at full throttle. If you choose to fly in real time, you will need
to know the aircraft you're flying and fly the longer distances at best cruise speed
(found in the Pilot's Manual and online Help).
Note:
If you're warping, the simulation will handle this for you, and there's nothing
to worry about.
When playing a Squadron game, the score displayed at the bottom of the HUD is your
team's score. To see your individual score, press CTRL+D/D.
The Sopwith Camel is an imported Microsoft® Flight Simulator 98 aircraft and therefore
cannot be flown in Multiplayer games where the host has chosen the Restrict Aircraft
option.
If you experience a crash in TERRAIN.DLL and attempts to restart the simulator fail,
you must reboot your computer.
Fuel and ammo can't be changed in Multiplayer mode This feature
is written into the CFS 2 code: the fuel and ammunition levels can be changed, but
there are multiple fuel tanks on the aircraft and any changes you make may or may
not appear in the tank you have currently selected. Cycle through your tank selector
and you should see the different fuel levels.
