Games for Windows - LIVE lets parents or system owners set permissions that allow all members of the household to enjoy LIVE games in a user-appropriate environment. These options will only be available on an account created as a Child account. Using the tools in Family Settings, parents and caregivers can set limits on what content younger game players may view and on the young player's interactions with other players online.
Games for Windows - LIVE family settings can be applied most effectively when used along with Windows Vista®
and Windows 7 parental controls.
You may select the following settings for your child's account.
- Privacy & Friends
- Online Friends
- Voice and Text
- Video
- Profile Sharing/Viewing
- Online Status
- Games for Windows Multiplayer
- Friends List
- Member and Downloadable Content
Please note that whichever settings you choose, your child can still receive new friend requests. However, you can control the approval process for these requests.
To access Family Settings, follow the steps below.
- Login with your child's account, and press the Home button on your keyboard to bring up the Guide.
- In the Guide, click your child's gamer card.
- On the Gamer Profile screen, select Account Management. When asked to open a browser window, click Yes.
- In the gamer profile area of Xbox.com, click Family Settings. Sign in with the e-mail address and password you used during the parental approval steps.
- Set your preferred level of privacy and online interaction for your child's account and save the changes.
- You must be present when your child signs up for Games for Windows - LIVE. To sign up your child and manage Family Settings, you need a Windows Live ID. For more information, view the information on child's account in the Join Games for Windows - LIVE information page.
Note
Family Settings remain in force whether your child accesses LIVE using Windows or an Xbox 360 console, as long as he or she signs in with the same child account. Not all settings are relevant to Games for Windows - LIVE accounts.
For details on how to change Family Settings from an Xbox 360 console or original Xbox console, see the Family Settings page on Xbox.com.
