"Installation failed" error 

This error may occur if files have become corrupt during the download process, the system does not have enough disk space, or you do not have rights to install software on your system.

Check your Windows user account permissions

You need an account that allows you to make system changes in order to install game software or downloads (for example, an Administrator or Standard user account). If you are signed into Windows with a Restricted user account, you will not be able to install this software. Please contact the computer's owner if you need assistance logging in with this type of account.

Hard drive space

Check your disk space.

  1. Open Computer and right-click on the C:\ drive.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Make sure you have enough disk space to for the download. Please note that Windows requires space for Virtual Memory. If your drive is nearly full, you will need to free up space before downloading the item again.
  4. If you are installing the product on another hard drive, also check that drive's disk space.

Remove Download

The download files may be corrupt. Follow these steps to remove the software.

  1. Close all browser windows and programs currently connecting to the Internet except the Games for Windows – LIVE software.
  2. In the Games for Windows – LIVE software, click My Media and then Active Downloads. Cancel all downloads and close the program. If the download is listed as installed, remove it.
  3. Next, empty the Games for Windows – LIVE cache
    • Click Start and then Run
    • In the Run box, type: %localappdata%\Microsoft\GFWLive\Downloads
    • Press Enter to open the Downloads folder
    • Empty the contents of this folder by selecting all content and deleting it using the Delete key or option.
    • Close all windows
  4. Restart your computer system.
  5. Open the Games for Windows software and now try downloading and installing the item again.
