Games for Windows - LIVE offers a range of communication options, including game invites and voice and text messaging.

Game Invites

Game invites are a fast way to rope your friends into multiplayer action. You don't have to exit your game to extend an invite, just call up the Guide from wherever you are. Game invites let your friends know that you want them to join your game.

If you're playing a game and receive a game invite to join a different game, you will need to close the game you are playing before you can accept the invite.

To send a game invite

  1. On your PC, start your game. Press the Home key on your keyboard to open the Guide.
    • Tip
      If you don't see the Guide after pressing the Guide button or the Home key, make sure your game is a Games for Windows – LIVE game. The packaging should have the logos for both Games for Windows and LIVE across the top.
  2. Select Messages, and Invite to Game.
  3. Select or enter the gamertag(s), then select Send Invite.
  4. Create another invite if you want (althoug you can invite multiple gamertags with a single invite). When you're finished, press the Home button to return to your game.
  5. When the player you invited accepts your invite, his or her gamertag will appear.

To accept a game invite while playing a different game invite while playing a different game

  1. Close the game you are playing and start the game you have been invited to play.
  2. Press the Guide button to open the Guide, select Messages, and open the game invite. Select Accept to accept the invite.

Voice Messaging

All you need are a gamertag plus a microphone or headset.

Note: Only Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows - LIVE gamers can receive voice messages.

To send a voice message

  1. On your PC, start your game. Press the Home key on your keyboard to open the Guide.
  2. Connect your mic or your Xbox 360 Headset to your computer. If you're using the headset, put it on.
  3. Sign in to LIVE.
  4. Select Messages, Create New Message.
  5. Select or enter a gamertag.
  6. From the Message screen, select Add Voice.
  7. Select Record Message and speak into your microphone. The recording will conclude after 15 seconds; to end the recording sooner, select Stop.
  8. To listen to your voice message, select Play Message.
  9. When you're ready, select Done, Send Message.

Text Messaging

To send a text message

  1. On your PC, start your game. Press the Guide button (center round button) on your controller or the Home key on your keyboard to open the Guide.
  2. Sign in to LIVE.
  3. Select Messages, Create New Message.
  4. Select or enter a gamertag.
  5. Enter your text message and select Send Message.
