Configure Network Adapter Settings 

Games for Windows – LIVE online options require an Internet connection. When the game installs, the software automatically chooses the best network adapter on your system using specific criteria to find the interface that connects to the Internet. For example, if you have more than one network adapter on your computer, Games for Windows – LIVE will select the one that has a valid IP address and a valid gateway address.

Change Network adapter selection

If Games for Windows – LIVE selects the wrong network adapter, you may get the following error message: "Can't connect to LIVE. Make sure the selected network adapter can connect to the Internet and try again."

The game you're playing may use certain criteria for selecting a network adapter. In some cases, the game manufacturer's network adapter selection will override any Games for Windows - LIVE selection. For more information, read your game manual.

If you're connected to the Internet using PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) and are having trouble connecting to Games for Windows – LIVE, please call customer support.

View Network information

To view the network information page

  1. On your PC, start your game. Press the Home key on your keyboard to open the Guide.
    • Tip
      If you don't see the Guide after pressing the Guide button or the Home key, make sure your game is a Games for Windows – LIVE game. The packaging should have the logos for both Games for Windows and LIVE across the top.
  2. Select Settings, Network Information.
