Starting positions
Booming is a tactic whereby you spend the majority of your resources early in the
game performing research in order to get up to high level and more powerful units.
Rushing involves attacking early, usually with cheap, plentiful units. Both strategies
are not without peril. A failed rush leaves you vulnerable to a counterattack, whereas
a booming strategy leaves you vulnerable early to the rush.
Booming or Rushing is decided by circumstance; you may prefer to do one or the other,
but as a rule booming on a small map or rushing on a large one is probably not going
to win you any games. The army you have created, your enemy’s actions, and the map
you are playing on all determine whether you should be rushing or booming.
Army
When playing on a large map with multiple starting positions and large distances
to enemy bases it’s a good idea to boom to level 3 before attacking but on small
tight maps level 1 rushing is the way to go.
If you have a lot of low-level creatures in your army it is a good idea to rush;
make sure you hit hard and fast and don’t stop attacking. It is generally a good
idea to focus first on killing enemy creatures and Henchmen rather than buildings
including Sound Beam Towers since Henchmen left alive can just repair them or build
new ones. Of course this isn’t always the best action but sometimes it works.
Enemy actions
Good intelligence through scouting or sonic/radar pulses will show you if your enemy
is booming, but neglecting their defenses. In this case, you can quickly rush with
a lot of units and since creatures tend to build quickly, you can easily switch
from your own strategy of booming to rushing. If you are playing on a map with limited
distance to the nearest enemy it is best to rush because as the saying goes “A good
offense is your best defense.” This is especially important on small maps with lots
of players. You want to quickly eliminate as many opponents as possible before they
have a chance to level up and establish tough defenses.
