"While the graphics continue
to be top notch, the game has put more into the hands of the player. While you can
control your own lance of mechs, you can also call in a second lance, eventually
having up to eight mechs under your control."

CanadianGamer Review 02/24/03
"MechWarrior4: Mercenaries features everything that a BattleTech fan could wish
for. There are truly immense battles involving a large number of different Mechs,
an interesting plot, multiple endings (depending on your actions), a large selection
of Mechs, an impressive amount of weapons, diverse missions, and good multiplayer.
Coupled with the lack of any serious bugs, this game becomes one of the easiest
recommendations I could make. The bottom line is that MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries
is one of the better games released on the PC in quite sometime. Any fan of BattleTech
should have this in their collection by now."
GameAxis Review (8.1/10) 02/15/03
"Overall, players would be entertained by MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries because of the
added responsibilities they have for their mercenary unit - such as contract choices
and keeping the operational costs above the line. The single player game simplifies
some aspects of mercenary administration, but helps in maintaining the pace of the
game action. The new 'Mechs and map settings also adds value to the package, especially
for players who like to battle online. A very fun gaming package for any MechWarrior
fan and for any gamer that wants to find out how cool it is to ride a walking tank
into a battlefield."

Review 01/29/03
"MechWarrior 4: Mercanaries continues the excellent line of MechWarrior games. The
single player game is different enough to not feel like just another expansion,
and the Solaris VII matches offer an enjoyable break from mission play...With most
of the leagues converting to Mercenaries, this game will be a 'must have' for any
player who participates in leagues or organized online units. In any case, the game
will be enjoyable and a good addition to any Mechwarrior collection."
Entertainment Depot Review (8/10: Excellent)
01/20/03
"While MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries had some pretty large shoes to fill, I think most
fans of the series will be pretty happy with what is offered here. The relative
shortness of the campaign is balanced out by the variety of missions and replayability
of the campaign. As is good and proper, this game allows you to stomp around in
giant robots and blow stuff up. What more could you ask for?"
GamesFirst! Review (4 Stars)

"With a level of detail, weapons, and options for your mech's improvement that makes
the game a true joy to play, you'll find yourself putting in a few extra hours after
dark to earn the extra cash to purchase that new mech chassis."
Gamer's Pulse Review (37/50: "must have") 01/17/03
"Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries is a fun, well designed game that really adds to the
`Mech universe and mythology. The focus on cash and reputation provides a nice break
from the usual fair. If you like giant walking robots , then you have to get this
game."
PC.IGN Reader's
Choice: Best Sim 02 01/15/03
"Why it rocked: Giant robots? Are you kidding? Okay, so maybe they're not technically
giant robots but those big vehicles that look like giant robots are damn cool. This
has been one of our favorite series for some time now and this latest version offers
more of what we've come to expect. So what if it wasn't Mechwarrior 5? While we're
waiting for that, there's no other title that even comes close in the giant battling
robot...suit...thingie department."
Fragland.net Review 12/20/02
"The game plays itself as a first person shooter and the opponents' AI is good (they'll
engage on your mech if they see it's damaged, rather than keep firing at random
or during tournament fights another pilot can join an alliance with you to destroy
everyone else until you're both the last ones standing)."
Strategy Informer Review 12/5/02
"All in all, this is an enjoyable blast of a game, with a very strong following,
especially for multiplayer aficionados, and one that will have you reaching for
that joystick in times of terminal boredom when strategy or UT just won't 'do it'.
It is certainly worth buying if you have all the predecessors, and even more so
if this is your first tastes of Mechwarrior."

Level Gaming Review 12/3/02
"The new additions to this long history of Mechwarrior games are different from
the previous titles. The increase in Mechs on the battlefield and the addition of
the money management will keep the game from appearing stale and repetitive. There
will always be a need to manage money, go on missions, and configure your own Mechs.
In short this is a great game that can be replayed online and in single player mode."
GameSpy Review 12/2/02
"A solid addition that fans of the series should enjoy."

Review 12/2/02
"Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries doesn't reinvent the series, it only refines it. Why
fix what ain't broke is what I say. Shoulder cannons down, this is easily the best
and brightest installment in this hugely successful series."

"I have no doubt that I'd immediately recommend this game to anyone who enjoys mech
games, or even a good action title now and again."
GameSpot Review 11/18/02
"Mercenaries is the perfect stand-alone sequel: improved enough for hard-core players,
yet accessible enough for novices. The MechWarrior series' basic premise -- blowing
up giant robots with futuristic weaponry -- is still loads of fun."

PC.IGN Review
11/8/02
"Mercenaries offers this -- all that makes MechWarrior great -- and then packages
it into an incredibly robust, varied, distinct, and different offering that enthralls,
engrosses, and begs to be played."
Gamers Depot Review 11/8/02
"Surprisingly, Mercenaries comes completely loaded with new gameplay and features.
Cyberlore seemed to get it right with this one. We expected more of the same with
a different plot, but that just wasn't the case. They added just what the series
needed to keep on rolling - more quality gameplay, more mechs and weapons, and the
chance to really experience the Mechwarrior universe as a mercenary."
