Pandora's Box Update

Important Note: This patch is used for English, French and Japanese versions of Pandora's Box.

These self-extracting, self-installing files install 2 modified files, "pandora.exe" and "langenu.dll". This patch fixes a bug specific to computers with new Pentium III processors , which produce the error "Unable to create DirectDraw surface. Make sure that DirectX is installed, and then try again." upon startup. If you do not have a computer with a Pentium III processor and do not recieve this error upon startup, then there is no need to patch your existing setup.

Note: The current online puzzle demos will not run on Pentium III machines or higher. However, all puzzles in the retail version of Pandora's Box will run on Pentium III computers and above.

Instructions for download:

• Click on the link below.
• When you are asked if you'd like to run the file or save it, choose SAVE.
• Save the file to a location on your hard drive which you will remember.
• Once the file has downloaded, go to the location to which you saved the file.
• Double-click on the icon for pandemo.exe. The file will self-extract and automatically start to install.
• Pandora's Box also requires DirectX^T. If you have not installed DirectX or are unsure if you have the current version, there is information below on downloading DirectX 6.1.

DirectX

This download, located at the Windows Update site, contains the components you'll need for playing games created with DirectX technologies. The DirectX installation process requires approximately 50 MB of free space on your hard drive. After installation, the DirectX download will take approximately 15 MB of hard drive space. If you had an earlier version of DirectX installed on your system, you will see little difference in available space on your hard drive since DirectX will overwrite the earlier version.

• Windows 98 & 95 Users

• Windows NT® Users
  DirectX 6.1 is for Windows 95 and Windows 98 only. It does not work on Windows NT. DirectX 7.0 will be included in the forthcoming release of Microsoft Windows 2000. In the interim, Windows NT users can download Windows Service Pack 4, which includes DirectX 3 for Windows NT 4.0.
